Shake-Up Headphones For The Deaf

While most people won’t understand the use in creating a pair of headphones for the deaf, designer Pierre-Antoine Bouzard hears a different tune. In his latest design, Shake-Up, special headphones are worn by the user who’s deaf. Different tones and vibrations are then emitted in an attempt to let the user “feel” the music. And by “feel the music,” Bouzard really must mean vibrations. I can’t help but wonder how this is any different than having a vibrator strapped to the side of Helen Keller’s head.

But hey, if it works and deaf people can get a chance to rock out, I’m all for Shake-Up. Let’s just see what ends up happening with this concept.

Immunity To AIDS Is A Gene Edit Away

Unless you have loads of cash like the great Magic Johnson, HIV and AIDS could still be a threat to your precious blood cells. Scientists may have found a way to give average earning folks like you and I an immunity to AIDS. Some people are naturally resistant to HIV due to a mutation in their cells that keeps them from producing normal CCR5, the protein which HIV is attracted to.

Scientists have developed several tactics to block the production of CCR5 or distort its shape so that the HIV virus can’t attach itself to the protein in an attempt to take over your body.  Without the protein, the cells are nearly impenetrable. Sayonara, AIDS. Hello, raw sex.
