Here’s a really cool new start-up site from FreeWebs that’s still in its alpha stage. Fotowoosh is an online service which turns your images into 3D, zoomable and explorable images. As you can see from the animated pictures above, the service looks really impressive.

The 3D image is constructed using VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language), which means that to use the service, your gonna have to get yourself a VRML reader. Future browsers will most likely implement this format in. The system works best on outdoor images, and as the site says “[the] system automatically constructs simple “pop-upâ€? 3D models, like those one would find in a children’s book”. Fotowoosh is now accepting applications for beta testers. Check it out. — Andrew Dobrow

No this is NOT Ben Kingsley, it’s just a 3D rendering of him

We found this incredible rendering of Ben Kingsley, the famous British actor who starred in such movies as Schindler’s List and Gandhi. Believe it or not, this is NOT a real photo of Mr. Kingsley, but a 3D rendering of his likeness made by Jacques Defontaine. It has got to be one of the most realistic, if not the most realistic, 3D image we have ever seen. Simply incredible. — Andrew Dobrow
