Talk Bad About AT&T, And They Have The Right To Boot Your Ass

AT&T added an interesting stanza into their new ToS agreement for their DSL service. Check it out for yourself:

AT&T may immediately terminate or suspend all or a portion of your Service, any Member ID, electronic mail address, IP address, Universal Resource Locator or domain name used by you, without notice, for conduct that AT&T believes (a) violates the Acceptable Use Policy; (b) constitutes a violation of any law, regulation or tariff (including, without limitation, copyright and intellectual property laws) or a violation of these TOS, or any applicable policies or guidelines, or (c) tends to damage the name or reputation of AT&T, or its parents, affiliates and subsidiaries.

In other words, if you talk bad about them, they have the right to boot your ass off of their service. Looks like someone is a bit touchy about their internet service. — Andrew Dobrow

  1. That’s is terrible. If a customer is talking bad about a service you ask them what’s wrong and see what can be done to improve it. Not give them the boot. What are they God all of a sudden. If I am a customer and I say your product sucks that is my oppinion and as an American I should have that right.

Reading this has made me loose a lot of respect for AT&T…. At least being a comcast user if my connection shuts off for a few hours I can curse the heavens without being punished.

  2. I think what they mean is similar to the whole napster thing, if you do something illegal or stupid with your service, and the media gets involved, or it somehow comes to the fact that “S/he used AT&T service to commit this act” i.e. spam the hell out of people with your AT&T service / email address, hack into things using it, basically anything that will make the service look bad because it was being used for evil. but ToS are so general that they could use it as ANYTHING. though if this were to be the case, your first amendment should override this ToS I think

  3. *** when I say napster I refer to the early days, and the users of SBC using it, and the RIAA arguing that SBCs advertising condoned and promoted the illegal download of music***

  4. Reading this page has made me loose a lot of respect for AT&T:(
