OS Calculators Reaffirm the Fact That You Still Use a PC

os-calculators-1

…but don’t worry, they’re available in the Mac OSX flavor as well. These OS Calculators recreate the experience of using your OS’s stock calculator app, even when you’re away from your computer.

A Mintpass designer recently showed off these OS Calculator concepts. Both models similarly clones its OS counterpart. These calculators will almost certainly never exist, but hey, worth checking out anyway, just in case they do.

Does Facebook Need a Facelift?

facebook-facelift1

Facebook has had the same basic design for at least a few years now. There have been small changes along the way, but for the most part, the last few years for Facebook have remained pretty standard — news feed, images and link sharing. Some might say if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, but artist Barton Smith is under the impression that the social network needs an entire facelift, let alone an update.

Smith took it upon himself to redesign Facebook’s UI, imagining a site with a slick UI, compared to the current site built around the minimalist news feed.

Zune HD Hands On

Personally, as a Mac user, I could give two shits about Microsoft’s latest incarnation of its failed digital audio player. But alas, Gizmodo’s Brian Lam got his paws on the Zune HD and says it’s quite the improvement. In fact, he seems to like it more than Apple’s ultra-popular iPod Touch, save for the lack of apps available. Check out the video above. You’ll get to see the animations and the entire UI.

Blizzard To Store UI Settings For World of Warcraft

Rash and I are finished with World of Warcraft but there’s still around 10 million people who are still grinding hard. Anyone who’s played the game and used UI add-ons like threat meters, CTMod, etc. know that it’s a pain in the ass logging on from another computer due to the issue of UI settings being localized.

When Blizzard launches the WoW expansion pack Wrath of the Lich King, players will be happy to know that UI settings will be stored on your server. This means as long as your friend’s computer has the proper add-ons installed, you’re in the clear. Just one more way to keep you glued to your seat for several hours at a time.

Sneak peek at SonyEricsson’s new UIQ interface

uiqnew.jpg

For those who are unhappy with the current UIQ user interface employed by SonyEricsson devices, here’s a little something to look forward to. Apparently the UI will have some serious facelift. Here’s a shot snapped from a presentation somewhere, somehow, by somebody. –Sam Chan

Microsoft patent hints at Zune Phone UI

zune_phone_interface_1.jpg

The confirmation of the iPhone barely out of Steve Jobs’ mouth before rumors started popping up about a possible Zune phone in the works from Microsoft. A newly published patent, which was submitted last year by the Gates’ Squad, seems to be the UI of a possible Zune phone. Whatever it is, it’s definitely some kind of interface for a mobile device. The patent describes an interface with dynamic tiles, changing to match the suit of any running application.

Some of the logos displayed on the UI are really interesting actually. There’s one that seems to be the iconic scale of justice. Will the Zune phone double as a lawyer as well? The most important factor we need to know is whether a Zune phone would display blue screens on system errors. If that was the case we’re not sure if we could even think about purchasing it. Hell, for all we know, the Zune 2 could have been planned to be a mobile device all along. — Andrew Dobrow

A glimpse of how Windows Vista could have looked like

vista5.jpg
vista6.jpg

The new Windows Vista system is system-resource hungry, making your Core 2 Duo PC run like a PDA. The program itself isn’t cheap either, those who can’t afford it either go for illegal copies, or choose not to upgrade at all; but you got to give it to them, the new user interface (UI) does look good. Today we came across a set of graphics that were in the design pool (and Longhorn) during the Vista development process, these are the screens, wallpapers, icons and product packages that never made it to the final product. Perhaps they can “inspire” some fans to skin their Vista later. We’ve got a lot more pics after the jump.
