Wind Turbines Inspired By Ancient Methods

We’re digging this eco-friendly goodness from the folks at Windation Energy Systems. If you couldn’t guess by the name, they deal with organic means of producing wind energy. The developer of Windation’s latest wind turbine, Mark Sheikhrezai, was inspired by wind catchers used by the Persians to keep their interiors cool. The concept is simple: wind blows into the top, then it’s directed downward where the wind turns a turbine that generates up to five kilowatts of electricity. That’s almost... Continue reading

Majoring In Game Design Will Leave You In The Dark

So, you want to work in the game industry. You want to live, breathe, think, screw and shit video games for the rest of your life. Unless you want to be a master of the custodial arts, game design is the last thing you’ll want to major in. As Frank Caron of Ars Technica points out, the game industry is a very brutal and competitive field. He offers some words of wisdom for those actively pursuing their dreams by suggesting... Pigeons Are Hip And Tech Savvy

Who says pigeons are merely rats with wings? You show me a rat who can use an iPhone like this pigeon and I’ll believe it. Until then, pigeons are just as hip and tech savvy as a remote controlled pigeon or a pigeon with an ass camera. Now does someone want to explain why this gentleman has a pigeon in his apartment? Coming Soon To A War Near You: Mini Dragonfly Robots

Dutch scientists have unveiled the DelFly Micro, an insect-like robot that’s the world’s smallest camera-carrying aircraft. Despite being less than four inches long and weighing only 0.1 oz., the Del Fly is able to stream live broadcast-quality images and to reach speeds of up to 10mph. Features of the DelFly include ultra-light thermoplastic polymers, carbon fibre, a super small lithium polymer battery, and micro-circuitry. It’s Achilles heel is it’s short three-minute flight time. Robotic camera drones are in high demand... Continue reading

Sam’s Club Has Geeks On Call To Overcharge You And Fix Nothing

It’s no mystery that Geek Squad, the subsidiary computer repair service of the Best Buy Company, is known for its incompetence and over-pricing in computer maintenance. After all, it’s Best Buy. Now, these computer services are sprouting up alongside many other major retailers. A week after Dell announced its tech-support services with Wal-Mart, the retail chain Sam’s Club (which is owned by Wal-Mart) stated it will be adding a computer repair service to 20 of its stores. It’s called “Geeks... Continue reading

Parasolar, a solar parasol, is the beach umbrella of the future. What with all this “global warming” stuff going on, mankind is pretty much screwed. You’ll have to do your part, like harnessing solar power into umbrellas. Use the Parasolar during sunny days and it will capture solar energy to recharge your gadgets and gear. Equipped with 12-volt output and two USB ports, the Parasolar can absorb enough energy to power a slew of human needs and it comes in... Continue reading

Unique Vending Machines

Neatorama has done a great job at rounding up some wacky and unique vending machines. While we’ve all reached for that 5-year-old bag of Party Mix before, these machines offer everything from marijuana to hot dogs to iPods. Though iPods aren’t anything new, I was surprised to find you can get a delicious (and kosher) Nathan’s hot dog from a machine. My personal favorite is the live bait machine. Something about it just seems – wrong? I’ll stop blabbing and... Continue reading

The 12 Coolest Extreme Clocks That You’ll Never Own

Clocks are one of those gadgets that we don’t realize how important they are to our lives until we are left without one. Luckily, most cellphones these days come with a clock and alarm built right in, but for some people, this just isn’t enough. Some of us need that little (or sometimes, huge) extra boost of motivation to pull those covers away from our bodies. The 12 clocks which follow are not for the light-hearted or those with high-blood... Continue reading
