Trick Out Your Homer Simpson Clock

It’s no mystery that Homer Simpson is a portrait of manliness worldwide. That’s why Tony Sambuchi has taken it upon himself to turn this store-bought talking Homer Simpson clock into something more.  After stripping the clock of its innards, Sambuchi manages to get the clock to play Homer’s voice through his sound system every hour and he turns the clock into a light show as well. Bravo. While not the coolest homage to the Simpsons, this DIY clock mod is... Continue reading

Sony Speakers Are Tiny, Tiny, Tiny

Sony’s new HT-IS100 home theater system has the smallest speakers of any home theater system I’ve seen to date. With 450-watts of power, these miniature speakers pack a punch that rivals many standard sized speakers. An optional wireless kit allows the two rear speakers to be hooked up without the need to run wires, keeping your setup free of cluttered wires. The entire system goes for around $700 and includes three HDMI ports on the head unit, making it an... Continue reading

DIY: $30,000 Stereo System

Manitoba native Michael Tarasenco built a $50,000 home theater with $30,000 worth of stereo equipment. After many years of being an audio junkie, Michael decided he wanted a theater in his new home. Using no outside labor, the basement was renovated and a theater was built in a 13′ x 28′ area. Watching projected movies on a 92″ retractable Da-Lite screen must be sweet. Couple that with a room modified for great audio and you have quite a multimedia experience... Continue reading

Sorry to Disappoint, Fanboys

A lot of you are under the impression that the consoles I selected for my 10 Worst Gaming Consoles of All Time post were chosen for the fact that I simply don’t like them. You couldn’t be further from the truth with that assumption. The Nokia N-Gage being a portable console and my half-assed rant aside, I believe that in my inebriated state (I had just arrived in New York after traveling all day,) I failed to really give you... TV screen for those who want to crash their cars

This is perhaps one of the most dangerous designs we have seen for a while: TV screens on the sun visor at the driver’s seat. It is only meant to be used when you are not driving, or it’s for the person sitting next to the driver. Depending on what’s playing there, it can be very tempting to glance at the screen. After banning phone use when driving, TV watching might be the next on the list. These screens measure... Continue reading

Kenwood speakers go wireless

Everything now is going wireless, so maybe the creators are finally starting to realize no one likes wires all over their desk. The music is broadcast from the dock to the speakers via 2.4 GHz frequency, which basically means if you have a 2.4 GHz phone in proximity to these speakers, you’ll get sporadic noises when you’re talking on the phone; it sucks. The thermos, I mean speakers, provide 360 degree sound while using a performance class D amp for... Continue reading

Headplay’s Personal Cinema System: a 52 TV that doesn’t cost an arm and leg

Ok, so maybe a 52 TV doesn’t cost an arm and leg (but it’s close), but there is more deception than that in the title. Headplay’s Personal Cinema System isn’t actually a 52 TV; it’s actually headgear that has a screen which looks the same size as a 52 TV because it is so close to your face. This strange looking contraption can be connected to many different devices, such as a PC, iPod, Xbox 360, or DVD player. Don’t... Continue reading
