Deals: $350 Playstation 3 on Amazon

80gbPS3

If you’ve been holding out for a price cut on the PS3, today is your chance to take advantage of Amazon’s PS3 deal. $350 nets you an 80GB system with a DualShock controller. Sorry, no motion control here, folks.

Games? You’ll need to get those on your own, but considering the deals Amazon has on its Marketplace, it shouldn’t be too hard to pick up a couple of classic titles on the cheap.

Microsoft Sells 30 Millionth Xbox 360

xbox360logo1

Like it or not, Microsoft has managed to dominate the console market in just a few years. The company just announced that it has sold over 30 million Xbox 360s around the world. In addition to that impressive number, Microsoft has 20 million Xbox Live subscribers. By comparison, Activision-Blizzard’s World of Warcraft has around 12 million. Talk about a cash cow.

Super Nintoaster Makes SNES Games Om Nom Worthy

tb-snestoast1

Shove your Super Nintendo games right into the toaster and prepare to smother them in butter and jam. The Super Nintoaster brings the pure unadulterated power of toast to the ancient Super Nintendo gaming system. And let’s be honest, this poor console is in dire need of a makeover.

Basically what we’ve got here is a working SNES system packed neatly inside of a toaster, allowing the user to shove the Nintendo games in the bread slots as if they were prepping for a delicious BLT. Mmm… bacon. But there’s only one question now. How am I supposed to toast my bread? Check the vid after the jump. (more…)

Underground Storage For Japanese Bike Owners

Here in New York City, there are a few select parking garages that are an example of master engineering. In Japan, the same concept applies to bicycles. Giken’s Eco-Park system involves an underground storage unit that is earthquake-proof and can hold a good number of bicycles (~50). For about $30, you can store your ride here each month and retrieve it whenever you see fit. It only takes about 11 seconds to retrieve a bike, too! Students only have to pay half of that and don’t have to worry about storing their bikes in already-small dorms.

Why don’t we have systems like this in the United States? It’s perfect for those with small studio apartments or dorm rooms, which is clearly the target demographic for the Eco-Park.

8-Bit NES Games Go 3-D

Japanese design firm Tibori Design reimagined several classic Nintendo games in 3-D form. Titles include but aren’t limited to The Legend of Zelda, Excitebike and Super Mario Brothers. My personal favorite is Cut Man from the Mega Man series. He just looks so…right.

The YETI Is No Myth

Few things in this world possess the security that an apelike creature from the Himalayan region provides. Yet, if you can’t find the abominable snowman you can always name your portable security device after it. The difference? This yeti is no myth and it just might save your hide when everything goes SNAFU.

Enter the YETI Portable Security System YT-100. This handy device is a fully self contained rechargeable battery with motion and bump sensors, 110 dB siren and high intensity flashing lights to scare off any actual yetis interested in mating with this thing. The most notable feature is its Bluetooth capability. With the YETI, you can set it up so that if the alarm trips your Bluetooth equipped cell phone will ring, notifying you of the intrusion even if you’re miles away. For $250, your security is assured. I wish I could say the same thing about the abominable snowman.

It Takes Two To Make A Thing Work Right

Here’s a DIY system that can only be described as “horrendous.” Someone took a shitty Atari 2600 and shoved it inside a shitty SEGA Game Gear system. Both systems had their flaws, so combining the two should result in a big ol’ shitpile of a console. It uses the Game Gear’s backlit screen and uses the Atari for the actual gaming. With over 40 built-in games and a cartridge slot rigged up, you could game for hours. 7-8 hours to be specfic. Damn AA batteries! Hey, at least there’s no terrorist propaganda involved with this mod.

Software I Actually Bought: MediaLink

I have to come clean for a minute. I haven’t purchased any Mac or PC software in well over three years. I’m a pirating machine and I’d like to think I do it very well. However, I recently got a demo of some software called MediaLink from Nullriver Software. It essentially links my Macs to my Playstation 3 out in the living room of my apartment. This allows me to stream all those pirated TV shows and movies to the big screen TV out in the other room. I can also stream all my iPhoto photos and iTunes music as well. Think of it as a godsend.

Well after using the demo, I said “Fuck it.” and plunked down the $20 for MediaLink. It feels nice to support a company making a utility that is indispensable to me. My roommates and I have been ghetto-hacking our TV for months, trying to get out movies and such to stream or playback. Now my PS3 does everything I’ve ever wanted: Next-gen gaming, Blu-ray playback, classic gaming, streaming audio, video and photos and Internet browsing.

If you have a Playstation 3, I highly recommend checking out MediaLink. You won’t regret it. Nullriver also makes a piece of software for the Xbox 360 called Connect360 that does the same sort of thing.

Honda’s Walking Assist For The Sackless

I don’t know about you, but I’d find it quite difficult to take steps with this thing straddled in between my legs. Alas, it is Honda’s inevitable desire to give me blue balls with its latest device geared towards the disabled – the walking assist device with body weight support system. Honda is no stranger to assisted walking devices for the eldery, but it is treading in new waters by trying to get men to sit on this thing.

If that saddle wasn’t sitting uncomfortably underneath my package, the device would never reduce the load on leg muscles and joints. It’s supposed to support a portion of a person’s body weight with help from a seat that just crushes your junk. If you ask me, it looks as bad as some bike seats.
