Review: Tonium Pacemaker

I’ve been DJing since I was 15. Never professionally, only at parties, the occasional event or for my own pleasure. My first set of decks were made up of old Numark belt-driven turntables. After I got a little better, I bought Technics 1200s with Ortofon cartridges and a nice Rane mixer. That lasted me until I went digital and started using M-Audio’s Torq Xponent controller in conjunction with Traktor 3 on my Macbook. Now it’s 2009. For the last few... Continue reading

iPhone 3.0 OS Jailbroken

Big surprise, right? QuickPWN, the dudes behind jailbreaks of years past, have managed to create a jailbreak app for the iPhone 3.0 OS, which hasn’t been released yet. In fact, should you have access to the 3.0 developer release, you can download QuickPWN and try it out yourself. While I get the point of jailbreaking a phone for use of another carrier, as far as apps go, Apple’s App Store has really filled my need for quality apps. I no... Continue reading

Palm Opens Up Pre SDK

Good news for those of you who are sick of the iPhone. Palm has finally let loose the Mojo SDK, which will enable developers to build apps for its upcoming Pre phone. In addition to the standard fare in a phone-based SDK, Palm is offering “cloud computing” services which emulate push technology. Sounds like someone is trying to compete with RIM and Apple! Great news and all, but still nothing official on the Pre. Rumor has it that sometime in... Continue reading

Conficker Virus Launches, Nothing Happens

Can you say Y2K? Good, ’cause a lot of people must be thinking about that right now. That stupid virus you’ve been reading about, Conficker, was supposed to activate itself today and cause half the Internet to go down. Hell would enter Earth, our first born would die and blogging would become a well-respected profession. Yeah, nothing happened. It’s a hoax it seems. Happy April Fool’s Day. Link

RIM Launches Blackberry App World

This is no April Fool’s prank, my friends. In the wee hours of this morning, RIM switched on its competitor to Apple’s App Store, the Blackberry App World (how creative). You’ll be able to browse top apps, find new ones and hope someone was able to make a half-decent program in such little time. RIM is saying that by the end of the week, about 1000 apps will be available. Much better than the Google G1′s Android Marketplace launch, but... Continue reading

It Sucks: Mega Man II Hits The iPhone

I realize that Steve Jobs is really psyched about turning the iPhone and iPod Touch into fully-fledged gaming platforms. That’s great. There are tons of fantastic games for these devices, produced by powerhouse studios and publishers like Electronic Arts. Unfortunately, the classic NES title Mega Man II is not fantastic. Look at this retarded control scheme Capcom set up. It looks like somebody whipped those graphics up in five minutes using Macromedia Flash 4. Of course, you’re going to play... Continue reading

Skype Coming to iPhone

iPhone? We don’t need no stinkin’ iPhone! eBay has announced that its ultra-popular VoIP software, Skype, will be available for download sometime on Tuesday. The application will change the way people use their iPhones and could even put a dent in sales of the Apple device as more people choose the unrestricted iPod Touch over the iPhone. All your standard features are available, save for video chat. Blackberries will also be getting a Skype application on Tuesday, paving the way... Continue reading

EA Explains The Sims 3 DRM Scheme

Before you get your molotov cocktails out and start heaving them in the direction of the Electronic Arts offices, stop and listen. We all know what a clusterfuck DRM caused for the game Spore. People bitched quite a bit and this time around, EA is going to listen. On the official Sims 3 blog, Rod Humble from EA just posted this tidbit about how the DRM for the game will work: The game will have disc-based copy protection – there... Continue reading

GlitchNES: Who Needs Guitars Anyway?

Previously, I showed you how to manipulate video using Pure Data and a MIDI controller. This time around, we’re skipping the computer and all the bullshit. Using a program called glitchNES, you can now alter code in your favorite NES ROM to produce glitchy, hacked video and music. I’d imagine it would be awesome for live performance or video manipulation. The question is: which game would you edit? Link

OHM64 MIDI Controller

You’ve got beats, you’ve got a party. How are you going to bring it? Simple. Wait until Livid releases its OHM64 MIDI controller. It features a built-in LED matrix with push buttons. This will allow you to sequence only the cheesiest of 4/4 beats, ensuring maximum danceability. There are also plenty of knobs, buttons and sliders for you to play with, allowing you to mix and cut up music or video to your heart’s content. And check out that wood... Continue reading
