Seascout Aquatic Rescue Robot Won’t Leave You Stranded
Shipwrecked? No worries. I’ve got this Seascout aquatic rescue robot. It replaces all the bikini-clad Baywatch babes you wished would rescue you. Pamela Anderson can’t swim in hazardous conditions even with flotation devices, but Seascout can. The idea is that anyone stranded in the water could use a GPS tracker to summon the rescue robot to come scoop them up and bring them safely to shore. With internal lighting, a sunroof and a radio system, your rescue shall certainly be... Continue reading
Japanese Digging Robot
You probably think that I’m talking about some autonomous robot that digs into the side of a mountain, right? Wrong, suckaz. I’m talking about a robot built by a Japanese man that spends all day digging and submitting stories to everyone’s favorite vice, Digg.com. He was recently arrested in Nagasaki and judging by the above video, it doesn’t look like something Lil’ Jimmy would do with an Erector set. Or is there more than meets the eye… Link
Robot Bartender Flexes ‘Cause You’re Drinkin’!
Sooner or later, the cute bartender that was the only reason you ever went out to the bar in the first place, will be replaced. Robot bartenders are the future. No more half-filled plastic cups of Red Bull and vodka that only lead you to getting thrown out after an argument with the bartender regarding a drink that wasn’t made properly. These bots know how to serve and never have a grim attitude. The Beer Robot from Asahi has many... Continue reading
Robotic Fish Feeder Saves Lives
The most common demise of fish is due to negligence. If you go through life with a “can’t someone else do it” attitude, like myself, then pets really aren’t your bailiwick. Fish of all pets are the easiest to maintain and yet, some people can’t keep a goldfish alive longer than a week. With Fifer, the fish feeding robot, fish finally get the attention they deserve. Fifer calculates the density of fish in the water. It’ll send out sound waves... Continue reading
Papercraft Malware Bots Attack!
Though a company like Symantec is generally lame, what it’s done recently might restore a little faith in the software manufacturer. As part of an awareness campaign to help inform people about malware/virii/beat shit on the Internet, Symantec has created a neat set of papercraft robots you can print out and fold. Make a bunch of them and have ‘em go at it in a winner-takes-win32.dll fight. Interested in other papercraft projects? Check out this papercraft locksmithing kit. Link (via)
Remote Control Tortoise Beats The Hare
Crabfu’s latest creation, the R/C tortoise, offers a uniquely humorous way of control that makes for an enjoyable show of stumbling limbs. Using a four channel radio system, the user is able to control each limb with each axis of the transmitter stick. Basically, you can make this thing dance better than Patrick Swayze ever did. On top of that, you can scare the shit out of your pets. Unfortunately, this tortoise hates water. No practical use, just pure unadulterated... Continue reading
Monorail Monitoring Robot Couldn’t Catch Me
Israeli company Linceus is introducing a monorail robot designed to patrol large areas such as airport perimeters/Gaza Strip without the need to hire rent-a-cops for security. The bot is capable of reaching speeds up to 50 MPH. It’s equipped with an array of sensors such as thermal cameras, laser designators and a rangefinder. It’s a damn shame it doesn’t have an arsenal of killer weapons but it does feature some nonlethal alternatives: a high powered spotlight, loud sirens and other... Continue reading
RoboGames 2008 Is Going To Be A Smash This Weekend
If you happen to be around Bay Area in Cali, then check out the biggest robot Olympics in existence: RoboGames 2008. With over 70 mind-shattering events at the RoboGames, you won’t find any friendly robots cooking or committing to hair transplant surgery here. Battle robots, walking humanoids, soccer bots, sumo bots, and even androids that do kung-fu are put to the ultimate test. It’s an open event that any average schmo can participate in; so, check it out if you’re... Continue reading
The Hexapod Robot CNC Router is a 3-D Sculpting Machine!
This DIY project from Matt Denton is a six-legged robot that’s able to crawl onto a malleable surface and begin cutting images into it. Though the original design called for a basic pen for drawing, the robot’s now equipped with a cutting tool able to mill three-dimensional surfaces into high density foam. It takes nearly 30 minutes to complete the sculpting and for not bolting down the work surface, I’d say the robot is damn accurate. No way in hell... Continue reading
Robofish Swim In A Robo School
We’ve seen robots of every variety. Chances are, if something is badass, there’s a robot-form of it. The Nonlinear Dynamics and Control Lab of the University of Washington have turned a dissociated group of robot fish into a communicative school of robot fish. Using low power, low frequency sonar, the fish are able to transfer information between one another while underwater. Although only half the information was received successfully, the robot fish were programmed in a way that they’re still... Continue reading
