Samsung P3 Sneak Peek!

Samsung is updating its portable media player with the successor to the Samsung YP-P2, the Samsung P3. The device will be formerly announced in January, joining the media player race alongside the iPod, Toshiba U103 and the non-existant MySpace PMP.

Subtle changes include its rectangular aluminum body and three inch 480 x 272 touchscreen. You can expect it to have Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, FM and many of the other typical photo, audio and video capabilities found in portable media players. Storage capacity will range from 4GB to 32GB with varying prices which will be announced at a later date. Expect this to hit store shelves in early 2009.

The Cheapest DIY Speakers You’ll Ever Craft

This is about as cheap as it gets when it comes to DIYin’ your own speakers for an iPod. Designer Dmitry Zagga fashioned these together after having his credit card declined at the Apple Store. Look who’s laughing now. They’re just like the clubhouse telephones of days past, where simply attaching a string to two ends of a can fashions together a communication device unlike any other.

These speakers are just as simple to make, too. Get four paper cups. Punch holes in the back of two of them. Place them on top of the other two, linking them together with two tooth picks. Then, stick your earbuds through the holes. It’s ghetto magic!

Myspace Drinks The DAP Kool-Aid

Who does Chris DeWolfe, CEO of MySpace.com, think he is? Michael Arrington of TechCrunch? Because he certainly doesn’t think he’s the CEO of MySpace. If he did, he wouldn’t have come up with the crazy notion that MySpace could compete in what is essentially Apple’s market of portable media players. Seriously, a MySpace-branded portable media player? Are you nuts?

According to Reuters, DeWolfe is only thinking about it. Let’s hope this idea remains a thought never to be realized, lest it joins the ranks of the Zune all the way at the bottom. If Microsoft can’t compete, what makes MySpace think it can? Clearly, it’s the Kool-Aid.

Mintpad: The Digital Post-It

The Mintpass Mintpad is a neat concept, had Nintendo not thought of its conception four years ago with the Nintendo DS. What seems like a glorified stand-alone version of the Nintendo DS’s Pictochat is also a portable media player, camera and web browser.

With this lil’ tablet, you can send full color notes to any other Mintpad users with its built-in WiFi capabilities. It packs 4GB of internal memory, which is a lot considering the IMOVIO iKIT only comes with 64MB and is $15 dollars more expensive. The letdown is that you can’t pull the screen off and stick Post-It notes all over your fridge, this thing is purely digital. I know, it’s a total bummer.

Little Big Pac-Man And Other Little Big Classics

I sure hope you’ve had a chance to dabble with LittleBigPlanet. If you haven’t, you’re certainly missing out on all of the fan-made levels that have flooded Sony servers, causing SOCOM to be unplayable. With all of the creative power behind the game, it’s no surprise players have already started recreating their favorite gaming classics such as Pac-Man, Tetris, Sonic The Hedgehog, Space Invaders and even Dig-Dug.

There will no doubt be more classics to come as the games creative utilities and player base become larger with each passing day. Looking for something challenging? Check out Vince’s level. He put some time in creating the most frustrating level known to platform games, but also threw in a hidden passage to bypass most of the stage! Genius.

Ice Hockey On A Portable DVD Player

This portable entertainment center is the only one in existence advertised with the Ice Hockey game for the NES playing on it. Despite all the expected features of a portable DVD player like a 14-inch crystal clear TFT LCD screen, multi-format disc play (including MP3 and DivX) and a high quality TV tuner for use all over the world; this DVD player is packing more than meets the eye. Again, why else would they advertise Ice Hockey for the NES on it?

That’s because this thing comes stocked with an 8-bit NES emulator. It could have been advertised with any game on the NES, but they chose Ice Hockey. Um, where’s Blades of Steel? For $246.25, it’s the most expensive emulator you ever payed money for. Oh right, it also plays DVDs.

Portable Blu-ray Super Multi Drive

Are you still looking for a Blu-ray player? Vince already told you that a PlayStation 3 is the way to go. What? You don’t have four hundred bucks? Sheesh. Bummer. I guess the $289 Portable Blu-ray Super Multi Drive will have to suffice. While it’s not as “super” as the PS3 at playing video games, it can burn DVDs and play your favorite Blu-ray movies on the New MacBook, Pro and Air. That is, if you have favorites.

If only you had a couple extra bucks. You’d be able to get something that looks nothing like a cigarette case, plays the latest video games and Blu-ray discs but is about as portable as a skip. That’s where this multi drive shines, portability. It might look like a fake piece of shit, but it’s a fake piece of shit that’s going places.

DIY Barcade On The DL Bears No Shame

When you’re having company over, you can never be too sure whether or not they’re gamers. If they are, they’ll embrace your secret with open arms. If they aren’t, they’ll mock you. So, it’s best to keep your mouth shut about games and pour some drinks, instead.

Burke Lashell has drinking friends, gaming friends and a whole lotta’ beer. When he turned his bar into a barcade with a flip-out four-player arcade setup and a big-screen TV mounted on the wall, he had no idea whether all of his friends, gamers or not, would dig it. Dig it, they did. It’s still missing a few buttons, but hey, it’s a work in progress.

LG’s Latest Portable DVD Player

LG makes every product under the sun. You name it, LG probably mass produces it. LG also enjoys marketing bizarre combination of electronic equipment. Take this 8″ portable DVD player, the LG DP889. Little excessive on the numbers, don’t you think?

Well, this portable DVD player not only works as a normal CD player but it also happens to be a digital photo-frame. Now, when you aren’t watching The Dark Knight on it, you can gawk at family photos as you dream of days past. It’s compatible with a plethora of formats, including DVD video/DVD±R/DVD±RW/Audio CD/CD-R/CD-RW, ensuring nearly any burned disc will work. It’s priced at $200, making it the most diverse digital photo-frame in existence and while, not quite as compact and portable as the Panasonic LF-P968C DVD burner, it’s certainly getting there.
