Mszunefan Calls It Quits, Regrets Zune Tattoos
You’ve gotta be one fat fucking loser to want to tattoo “Wel-come to the social” on your shoulder. It looks like some five-year old tattoo artist did it, or at least thought up the idea. It’s bad enough it’s the Zune slogan, but even worse: it’s a terrible slogan. Considering no one bought the Zune except this guy and four other people leaves little to be desired in regards to being welcomed to the social. Thanks for welcoming me, now... Continue reading
The 49 Cent Album
I think my mom is into The Replacements but no matter. When an album costs 49 cents, you and every bum in Manhattan can afford a copy. No excuses. Paul Westerberg, frontman for the band, decided to release his latest album this way. He originally wanted to do it for 44 cents but Amazon wouldn’t let him (they’re the only retailer carrying it currently). The music on the CD has been described as “freewheeling, choppy, (and) chaotic.” If you’re really... Continue reading
So Two Receivers and A Consumer Walk Into A Bar…
Radio stinks. It’s boring and pretentious and they never play enough 1970s progressive rock bands. In a desperate attempt to get more listeners in on radio, Coby Electronics’ HD Radio launched with promises of higher audio quality for no additional fee. The two new HD Radio receivers in town include the portable HDR-700 Radio System and the HDR-650 (pictured above) Component HD Radio Receiver. The latter is intended to be integrated into already existing household component systems. So if you... Continue reading
Local Sounds: WHYY 91 FM
Each day, as I read the news and write pieces on technology, art or even just my blog, I’m almost always listening to National Public Radio. More specifically, I listen to my hometown NPR station, WHYY 91 FM from Philadelphia, PA. WHYY offers a unique listening experience that’s really unmatched on both traditional and Internet radio. With shows like Car Talk, All Things Considered and Fresh Air (which is produced in Philadelphia) in addition to a wide range of news,... Continue reading

AirPiano Beats Out Air Guitar
Air guitar is a big thing but an even bigger musical hit is on the horizon. Omer Yosha has created an interesting, elegant interface that uses infrared sensors to control music applications he’s calling AirPiano. Similar in concept to the theremin but with many more advancements, the AirPiano allows any untalented schmuck to wiggle his fingers above the board to make sound. This is done by a virtual matrix of keys and faders above the board, each assigned with MIDI... Continue reading

Ampbot: Kicking Out Jams and Burglars
It’s a shame that Sega doesn’t manufacture gaming consoles anymore but it’s good to see the company can still churn out some interesting product. Ampbot is Sega’s latest creation and it’s a weird one. Ampbot follows you around blasting music from 12W speakers. It dances to the beat, busts a move and will set you back $500. Yeah, I know. Ampbot seemed like the coolest fucking thing since Purple Rain until you found out he was $500. Cool idea, bad... Continue reading
DIY Headphones Found on Flickr
Over on Flickr, user j.rusten decided to craft his own pair of headphones. Constructed with a vintage look in mind, the cups are made of layered cork with a green plastic shell. The final result? A cross between Grado and an Air Force pilot’s headset. The drivers used only cost $50, so I’d imagine you could design your own pair for under $100. Get the cred, head the music, bang the girl. Wait, what? Link (via)
