If I was stuck on a deserted island with nothing but a pair of headphones and my iPod, I would so mod my headphones to better resemble my current habitat. In fact, this awesome headphone mod could be used as awesomely musical camouflage from the island’s natives. It’s really a win-win. JBL has always been a purveyor of fine audio, which makes total sense considering its parent company is Harmon Kardon. A few years back, I reviewed some Reference 220 earbud headphones, which were affordable and sounded great on the iPod. This time around, JBL has teamed up with Quiksilver’s surfin’ sister company Roxy on a line of headphones that are catered towards young women. Do they stand the test of time? Perhaps.

Just for the hell of it, Nokia decided to run a design competition, challenging competing designers to create headphones inspired by their favorite music. Some of the resulting designs, as expected, are pretty awesomely wacky. The design above is inspired by Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” complete with unearthed zombies and a pedophile werewolf. Pacemakers are turning out to be more problematic than their original conception intended. The electronic device that runs the arterial show can not only be controlled wirelessly, but can also be deactivated by nearby MP3 headphones. Research teams are suggesting that patients wearing a pacemaker should stay more than three centimeters away from such devices as the interference from the headphones could prove fatal by temporarily deactivating the pacemaker.
