motherboard_mona_lisa

Sure, it might not be the largest Mona Lisa ever made, but who needs size when you’re made of the geekiest material ever devised, computer hardware.

The Motherboard Mona Lisa is made entirely of discarded hardware and currently sits in the lobby of the Asus headquarters in Taiwan.

Game Boy Camera Revived On The iPhone

gameboy_camjpg

Remember the Game Boy Camera? I do very vividly. You could buy an optional printer and print out all these wacky photos that looked like absolute shit. It also had some mini-games and a sequencer for making beats if I recall correctly. Now the camera that made everyone nauseous is making a comeback on the iPhone. Developer Epicore has released a $0.99 app called GB Camera. It emulates the same 2-bit color scheme and should make for some really cool photos now that you can, you know, share them with people instead of letting them rot on your Game Boy.

Crysis 2 Going Cross-platform

crysis_screenshotjpg

The original Crysis was the de facto title to test your computer rig with. If it didn’t run Crysis, your setup just wasn’t leet enough. This time around, Crytek is bringing its sequel to both PCs and consoles alike. While PS3 owners and PC owners should be safe, I worry about the ability of the 360’s hardware. Can it handle Crysis 2 in all its HD glory? We’ll eventually find out.

Review: Tonium Pacemaker

pacemaker1

I’ve been DJing since I was 15. Never professionally, only at parties, the occasional event or for my own pleasure. My first set of decks were made up of old Numark belt-driven turntables. After I got a little better, I bought Technics 1200s with Ortofon cartridges and a nice Rane mixer. That lasted me until I went digital and started using M-Audio’s Torq Xponent controller in conjunction with Traktor 3 on my Macbook.

Now it’s 2009. For the last few weeks, I’ve been messing around with the Tonium Pacemaker. It’s a rather expensive little DJ device coming in at around $850 but it packs a lot of power.

OnLive Gaming Service Might Shake Up Industry

perlman-1

Coming up with a new, viable idea in gaming is a tough challenge. After all, look what happened to the Phantom console after years of promises. A new service from entrepreneur Steve Perlman called OnLive is looking to challenge the home console as we know it.

The basic concept of OnLive is that it takes the powerful game computations that require serious hardware and computes them on a server far from the user’s home. The game is then fed through the Internet into the user’s home to a console of some sort. This will allow gamers to play games in real-time without the need for an install or game disc. Just think about how that would affect services like PSN and Xbox Live. Scary, right? VentureBeat got a preview of the service in action with Crysis and the results are apparently very impressive. Here’s to hoping that OnLive launches with success and a low cost to the consumer.

Nintendo To Roll Out App Store?

Take this rumor with a grain of salt, but there’s indication that Nintendo could be coming out with an App Store of its own for the Nintendo DSi. The device has two cameras on it, so it makes perfect sense to allow third-party developers to take advantage of the DSi’s unique hardware. Sources say that Nintendo is actually pushing this idea and will also expand the DSi to downloadable games as well.

So in essence, there’s finally some good news out there for Nintendo fanboys.

PC Case Mod: That’s So Tron!

This is one ill case mod. That’s slang for “well done and sexy,” which is exactly what Nick Falzone was going for with this computer case inspired by a Beijing building. This concoction of wood and circuitry looks to be a mash up of Tron and the Borg cube, minus the corrupt programs and assimilation.

Because Nick is such a nice fellow, he provides a detailed guide on making your own at the link provided. Think you’ve got the carpentry skills of Jesus coupled with the circuitry know how of Geordi LaForge? Prove it.
