What Your Email Address Says About You
This actually makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Oh, and AOL email users, no offense, are definitly the bottom of the barrel when it comes to technological know-how. Typically, these are people who used and might still use the AOL browser. Which should tell you enough. Me? I use both a custom domain and Gmail, so I fall somewhere in between those two, and actually, that makes a lot of sense. How does this measure up... Continue reading
iPhone Gmail Push Application Now Available
Tiverias Apps has unveiled their new Gmail push application, GPush, which claims to push Gmail e-mail messages directly to the iPhone, instantaneously, compared to waiting for the iPhone e-mail app to refresh. Users can take advantage of the iPhone’s push notification system, including audio alerts and pop-ups. The app is available in the App Store for 99 cents. But does it actually work? I’ve been waiting for a while for a Gmail push app, so I’ll most likely be taking... Continue reading
Gmail Goes Down
News agencies from around the world are reporting that Google’s ultra-popular Gmail service has been down since this morning. You can still send and receive mail using a third-party program, like Mail.app or Outlook, but apparently, for most international users, the web service isn’t working. I tried logging on at 9:30am here in New York and had no problems. But it seems that the major outages have occurred in the UK and Australia mostly. Keep updated with Google’s official Gmail... Gmail Labs Gets Multiple Inbox Panes
Feeling frisky this Friday morning? Fire up Gmail and go to the “Labs” section. You’ll find that there’s now an option that allows you to view multiple inboxes at the same time. In a nutshell, you can essentially create multiple window panes inside of Gmail for viewing things like your inbox, drafts and labels all at one time. Pretty nifty, though I must admit, I’m not too big of a label fiend. I should be, but creating hundreds of a... Continue reading
Google Unveils Offline Gmail
Google continues to inspire and amaze. The Mountain View, California-based company unveiled yesterday the ability to read and compose Gmail while offline. It’s available through the Google Labs feature within Gmail and when activated, starts downloading 10,000 emails to the user’s hard drive using Google Gears technology. Once finished, you’ll be able to search for emails and read them, as well as compose emails to people in your address book. And yes, your contacts will auto-complete even when offline. Of... Arduino-based Gmail Notifier
We love the Arduino, it’s true. Here’s a neat little project that combines Python and the Arduino to create a Gmail notifier. When you receive a new email, an LED will light up to alert you. It’s more of a software project than a hardware project but it’s still a great way to dive into the Arduino. I still have an unused LCD display I bought to interface with my Arduino. I bet with a little hacking, this project could... Continue reading
Gmail Chat Gets Voice And Video Chat
Alright! Gmail is no longer just providing the most convenient email and chat service on the Internet, it’s now launching voice and video chat right in the browser. Now you’ll be able to speak visually to your favorite foreign exchange students with the click of a button. It’s simple to set up, too. All you’ve got to do is download and install the voice and video plugin. Then, you’ll be on your way selling your body for cash as Internet... Continue reading
Google Adds SMS To Gmail Labs
An incredibly useful feature is coming to Gmail. Starting today (if all goes well), you’ll be able to send your friends and contacts text messages via the integrated Gmail chat. You’ll be able to save phone numbers to contacts and Google will give you the option of sending them a text should they go offline. It sounds very beta right now though, with Google using 406 area code numbers to push the texts out. The first time you send a... Continue reading
