Glowin’ For You

Some Russian modders managed to rip themselves away from South Ossetia for a few minutes and got to messing around with an iPhone. The end result? They made the Apple logo glow when the phone is on. A difficult mod? Hardly. All you need is a white LED with a resistor. Hook it into a power source and a ground on the iPhone and you’re good to go. The only problem is finding someone willing to give up an iPhone... Continue reading

Hypnotic Juggling Act Isn’t Circus Exclusive

When you’re under the influence of hallucinogens day in and day out, bright colors can make or break your evening. Pulling an all-nighter just wouldn’t be possible without PoiPlay. “…it’s like a firework show that doesn’t stink, smell bad or explode, and you can do it inside.” It’s a traditional form of juggling originating in New Zealand that includes a rope or chain swung in a circular motion to display visual patterns. Thanks to the popularization of LEDs and glow... Continue reading

Invisible Streetlight Is Very Visible

In your neighborhood, you may have noticed that the street lights can be almost as horrendous looking as the telephone lines. Designer Jongoh Lee must’ve been disgusted by the intrusion on mother nature for having come up with these solar powered street lights that imitate leaves, called Invisible Streetlight. The lights are comprised of a double injection of silicon, aluminum materials and a photocapacitor, which keeps it glowing all night long. While it’s by no means a bloomin’ dildo light... It Wasn’t A Bad Dose, Dude! It Really Is The Aurora Borealis In Santa Monica

Santa Monica recently held its first GLOW festival on July 19th, an all-night event of media art, performances, music, and sculpture. The most memorable of all was perhaps Usman Haque’s art installation called Primal Source. It looks like a smaller-scale northern lights, being made up of a large water spray screen that projects light patterns aided by the perfect backdrop of a darkened sky. The coolest and most engaging aspect of the design was Haque’s idea to use microphones around... Continue reading

DIY: Glowing Multipurpose Pushbuttons

Making your own arcade unit? What about some other DIY project that uses buttons? Buttons that don’t glow are mundane and unattractive, so why not make your own illuminating buttons? Playing arcade games in the dark is tough without being able to see what button you’re mashing down upon. Thankfully, Hacknmod has written up a great how to guide on converting those dull unilluminating buttons into the glowing variety. It’s not too late to turn the buttons on your DIY... Bright Side of the Moon

An eco-friendly moon that’s painted on an average cabinet; it’s sure to keep its owner awake all through the night. In the dark, the cabinet creates an illuminating effect that tries to mimic moonlight. Though you can’t grow space beer on it, you can still put your clothes in it. The picture makes the glow look a little too intense for my tastes, so I ask the question: where’s the on/off switch? Ah hell, you can always throw a drape... Continue reading

Brightdoor Good For Us, Bad For The Colorblind

Sometimes simplicity can be king when designing a product. Case in point: The Brightdoor. A creation from the studio of Lervik Design, Brightdoor works just like a traffic light sans yellow. If the door glows green, it’s unlocked and you can enter. Seeing Red? No entrance for you! Like many unique products, this is just a prototype that isn’t going to be implemented anytime soon. At first, I couldn’t fathom is how this door could be applied to real-life situations.... Continue reading

Glowing Gift Box Makes Your Gift Stand Out

I hate going to a party and having my present seem meager in comparison to the elaborately wrapped gifts of other guests. This is probably my own fault since I usually opt for wrapping gifts with the real estate section of the newspaper. This Glowing Gift Box is unbeatable when it comes to flashiness. The gift box continuously alternates between a red, green, white, and blue glow, hypnotizing the gift opener into kissing your ass in appreciation. In fact, I... Continue reading
