The fuse is lit: Gearfuse rebooted
If you’ve followed Gearfuse for awhile, no doubt you’ve noticed changes in the last few weeks. We’re expanding on the coverage of gadgets and inventions that Gearfuse has long featured, dialing up our filters to gather a broad spectrum of amazement across science, technology, and culture. We’re asking big questions (sometimes too big!), overturning our assumptions about discovery and innovation, setting our clocks to awaken us to technology’s past as well as its future. The first change happened early in November, when I joined Gearfuse as editor and lead writer. Continue reading

Your humble servant, Steve Rufer.

Gearfuse.com Becomes Premiere Parkour Destination
Gearfuse.com, one of the finest websites on the Internet, will now become a parkour-focused website. The move will enable Gearfuse to post more YouTube clips of Frenchmen jumping across buildings than ever before. Publisher Steve Rufer said that he is “grateful we could make this kind of switch. I recently moved to Paris and can’t stop jumping over women and baguettes! It’s intense! Parkour, baby!” All employees will now be required to wear short shorts, running shoes and a headband... Feature: Video MIDI Mixer Using Pure Data
About six months ago, I was reading up on music creation and the program Max/MSP, a graphical workflow environment for creating and manipulating audio and video. Very complex, but powerful stuff. The author of Max/MSP, Miller S. Puckette, later created a piece of similar, open-source software called Pure Data (pd). Pure Data is similar to Max/MSP except that it’s free for anyone to use and make stuff with. In this post, we’ll go over what exactly I managed to do... Continue reading
We’ll Now Return To Our Reguarly Schedueled Programming
My apologies for the lack of posting today. We got stuck on a train headed back to New York City today and it was just an awful mess. We’ll return tomorrow to our regular posting schedule. Look for a post within the next hour announcing the winners of our Killzone 2 contest!
Quick Review: SmartRSS 2 For The iPhone/iPod Touch
I was asked by the developers of SmartRSS 2 to play around with it before its release on the iTunes App Store. The software, released by Visuamobile, is one of the best RSS readers I’ve used period, let alone for an iPhone. It’s very quick and although it lags up at times, this is expected when you’re grabbing hundreds of RSS feeds at once. Adding a new feed is easy. Just use the menu (seen above) and search for your...
