iphone-4

iPhone OS 3.0 is old news. How do we know it’s old news? One, everyone’s already talking about iPhone 3.1. Two, it has been released for more than fifteen seconds.

So, with iPhone 3.0 out of the way, what are you looking forward to in the next major software upgrade?

Here are some potential future applications, based on Apple patents.

Samsung Jet Now Official

samsung-jet_5

Normally, we don’t like to post about every new cellphone in the world. There’s simply too many to count and besides, that leaves us with room to post the really cool ones. This time around, Samsung has finally announced the long-awaited Jet. Photos of this phone have been floating around for over a year if I recall, so it’s nice to see it out in the open.

So on to the details: This fucker packs a 3.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen, a crazy 3-D interface that is controlled via that wacky cube at the bottom of the phone, a 5-megapixel digicam with flash and autofocus, 2GB of built-in memory, audio jack, WiFi, DivX and Xvid codecs and to top it off, an 800 MHz processor. Can you believe these specs? Talk about a serious contender to the iPhone, especially with Xvid playback and a processor that’s faster than the desktop I owned several years ago.

No word on a release date or who’s going to carry it.

Google Images Gets Colorful

I was searching on Google Images today and noticed a new feature that must have been rolled out recently. Before, you could filter by image size and content. Now there’s an option to filter images by color. That’s right. Let’s say you’re searching for an image of some jewelry but you only want to display blue items. A few clicks and voila. It works really well, too. I’m assuming Google created a way to analyze images on the fly and determine the basic colors that comprise the picture.

Give it a try and see what you can come up with. I searched for “awesome”, clicked green and this is what I wound up with.

Gmail Labs Gets Multiple Inbox Panes

multiple_inboxes

Feeling frisky this Friday morning? Fire up Gmail and go to the “Labs” section. You’ll find that there’s now an option that allows you to view multiple inboxes at the same time. In a nutshell, you can essentially create multiple window panes inside of Gmail for viewing things like your inbox, drafts and labels all at one time. Pretty nifty, though I must admit, I’m not too big of a label fiend. I should be, but creating hundreds of a labels sounds like a big pain in the ass.

Anyways, the feature is being rolled out today. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

The New Experience Has Arrived

If you turned on your 360 yesterday, you probably were flabbergasted at the new interface that’s been getting some mixed reviews. Whether or not you like the new dashboard interface matters not, the new experience is here to stay.

Don’t forget to fashion your new Mii-like avatar to look like your least favorite dictator. Mine is a spitting image of Cambodia’s Pol Pot. That should scare away any strangers who consider adding me to their friends list.

The Headache of Disney Blu-ray Discs

Back in May, we talked about Disney’s Sleeping Beauty and how the Blu-ray release would include BD-Live Internet-enabled extras and features. After viewing the above picture, it looks like you’ll have to read through 57 pages of Terms of Use before you can access your content. Who has time for that? Certainly not a mother with hyperactive children on her hands. Way to go, Disney.

The Simeone Foundation Car Museum

This past weekend, I spent my Saturday visiting the Philadelphia-based Simeone Foundation Museum, Fred Simeone’s personal collection of historic race cars. The museum is packed with cars from the early 1900s up to 1970 (with a few oddballs thrown in for good measure.) I took over 120 pictures at the museum, highlighting every detail. What a lot of people don’t know is that these cars are mostly one-of-a-kind or extremely rare. For instance, there’s a 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe that Phil Spector used to own. It’s worth about $4 million bucks I hear.

To be honest, you should just click ahead to visit the Simeone Foundation’s website to learn more (there’s just too much to go over) and then visit my Flickr photoset for all the hot photos. Anyone into cars, mechanical engineering, design, racing or history will surely enjoy a magnificent collection of automobiles. After the jump, a taste of my photos and the museum.
