Revolutionary Electric Motor is a Single Nanometer Wide
Researchers have created an electric “motor” that is essentially a tiny molecule only one nanometer wide. Continue reading

Electricity Could Be Used to Extinguish Fires
Scientists at Harvard have discovered that the proper application of electricity could very well help fight fires. Continue reading
Transformers: The Boring Version
Megatron, such a naughty transformer. I wonder if Michael Bay would be up to the challenge of creating a literal Transformers movie. Come on, man, there’s definitly an opportunity for some major sparks and explosions, perhaps even some light electrocution. This version of Transformers might not be quite as exciting as the real deal, but it sure as hell is funnier. Plus, it’s Shia LeBeouf-free. Bonus! Link [via]
Power Socket Has USB Ports Built Right In
Earlier in the week we posted about a mod which would allow for two USB ports to take the place of a standard electrical socket. But why bother with a clumsy DIY when you can have the best of both worlds (like a tranny!) thanks to the TruePower UCS power socket with included USB ports. The wall socket connects right into your existing circuitry (like a tranny!), offering both standard electricity and USB charging power. Link [via]
How To Convert Your Wall Outlet Into a USB Charging Outlet
The future is now… almost. Soon enough, we’ll have no need for conventional electronic outlets because everything will be powered via USB. At least until everything is powered by simple kinetic energy or just by the air itself. We already have a ton of gadgets which are powered via USB, most notably the iPhone and iPod. This awesome step-by-step how-to explains how to convert your standard wall outlet into a USB wall charger. Link [via]
E-Rope Modular Power Strip
Power strips usually come in one shape and size. Not much you can do to make a power strip look sexy. The E-Rope concept turns each socket into a modular cube, which allows for assembly into any shape with any number of strips. E-Rope also helps cut-down on energy consumption. Even when a plug is plugged into the E-Rope socket, it only uses power when it needs too.
Blackout: Spies Penetrate US Electrical Grid
If your television goes out, you might want to hold off on calling your electric company. The situation could be out of their hands. In fact, the reason why your electricity just went out could be because of Chinese and Russian spies who have infiltrated the US electrical grid. Said spies planted malicious software inside the grid and had it gone undetected, we’d all be super fucked right about now. To get a look inside grid-warfare, check out the Wall... Continue reading
Gadgets for Beavers: Cellphone Charger Made Out of Wood
Apparently, being in the Russian military isn’t all fun and vodka. Hanging out in the woods all day might sound like a fantastic time (no, it actually really, really doesn’t), but in reality, it’s a lot rougher than you’d expect. Members of a Chechen troupe of troops have resorted to extreme ways of charging their beloved electronic devices. This handmade wooden charger was made by Chechen troops after they realized that the 20 lbs. of charger cabling they hauled with... Continue reading
Conductive Wire Glue A DIY Lifesaver
There are times when I’m working on a project and soldering just isn’t an option. Maybe I’m away from my workbench or at an entirely different location collaborating with another artist. I wish I had known about Wire Glue, which is a prototyper’s wet dream. You simple glue wire together with it and it’ll conduct electricity to keep your circuit going. It’s durable, easy-to-apply and doesn’t require a heat gun or any sort of bullshit like that. And at $4,... Continue reading
Cord Plug Redesigned
One of the most dangerous things you do on a daily basis (besides drive your automobile) is fiddle with the power cords of home appliances. You never know when pulling that cord will result in a tear and a powerful shock that you’ll certainly remember. Good thing designer Kim Seung Woo has redesigned the standard power cord with a glow-in-the-dark ring. And no, this hole is not for fucking. The ring makes finding the socket and unplugging the cords, day... Continue reading
