Energy Independence Is Our Future

Swedish company Home Energy has not forgotten about our energy independence even if our leaders of tomorrow have.  It’s made a wind turbine shaped as a sphere called the Energy Ball.  Home Energy claims that the shape allows for higher aerodynamic efficiency in comparison to traditional design as well as complete silence during operation.  The Energy Ball comes in two models: The 0.5 kW Energy Ball V100 has a price tag of $4,600 and the 2.5 kW Energy Ball V200 sells for $8,100. The prices might seem steep, but think of the energy you’ll be saving.

Tesla Coil Guitar Amp

Not much is known about this video except that a guy built a Tesla coil and used it as a guitar amplifier. Each note he plays, lightning and electricity shoot out from a device sitting in his living room. Does it look incredibly unsafe? Absolutely. Is it rock and roll? You bet your ass it is.

D-Link’s Peachy Green WiFi Routers

First, D-Link put routers in your pocket. Now, they’re thinking about the environment. D-Link is proud to claim it’s the first manufacturer to produce green home network WiFi routers capable of saving up to 40% in power usage. These routers are like a thoughtful roommate who never leaves the TV on or forgets to put the toilet seat down. With the ability to detect cable length and link status, they’ll adjust power accordingly, so you’re not racking up that electric bill for nothing. Each router can also be programmed to turn the WiFi radio off in an effort to save power.

D-Link has equipped three of their routers with this new technology: D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router DIR-665, Xtreme N Duo Media Router DIR-855 and the Xtreme N Gaming Router DGL-4500. While the new green ethernet technology affects each router differently, you can be sure that surfing the web without ruining the planet has never been easier, so long as you’re not using that Buffalo Nfinity.

Dyed Glass Makes For Better Solar Power

In an attempt to turn everyday household windows into solar panels, two MIT researchers have created “organic solar concentrators” out of dyed glass that could potentially increase traditional solar panel efficiency by 50%. Imagine fulfilling all your electrical needs with the help of your typical household glass windows.

I sure hope you haven’t desecrated your roof with inefficient solar paneling for no better reason than to impress your neighbors. In comparison to expensive solar paneling, these dyed windows will give you more bang for your buck. Which means you’ll have more money to burn on things like that stretch Hummer you’ve always wanted. Can I stop paying my electrical bill yet?

Make Use Of Shit

manurepower

It’s about time we got some crap worth shitting. Washington State’s Kevin and Daryl Maas are now producing electrical power with cow manure, which is nothing new for the most part. Using commercialized technology which harvests methane gas from manure, they burn the methane to create electricity. All the while, they send the now pathogen-free and odorless manure back to farmers, thus making great fertilizer. When can we do this with my shit?

Cost Controller Power Strip For Those Of You Pinching Pennies

ccps

Let’s face the facts here: you love saving both money and the environment. Whether you trade in your NV200 for a Toyota Prius or keep the heat at 55 degrees in the dead of winter, you get off on the mere fact that at the end of the month you’ll have saved a grand total of $6.34. Congratulations. Al Gore will show up to congratulate you any second now.

So if you’re pushing extremes already, take it up a notch with the Cost Controller, a power strip with built-in electricity monitoring and 8 plugs for your electronics. Unlike other power strips, the Cost Controller will measure how much electricity specific gadgets have used over time, thus allowing you to take appropriate measures to cut costs and save both money and Earth for the low price of $99.99.

Hotto Raisu, or how I learned to love the warm rice with cold water

HOTTO_Raisu_1.jpg

Meaning literally “hot rice”, Hotto Raisu is a Japanese creation which is rice which can be cooked using cold water. We imagine it works through some kind of chemical reaction. Despite a high price tag, there is hope that one day the Hotto Raisu solution could be used during times of natural disaster and power outages, allowing for a hot meal even with no electricity.

Of course, there’s always raw human flesh to devour. By the look on the man’s face doing the presentation, someone is was eating his lower limbs at the time the picture was taken.

WaveRoller: Wave generated energy in action, from concept to reality

wave2_1.jpg

Energy has been created using water power for a long time, but nothing even comes close to this. The WaveRoller is a device anchored to the sea floor, which has moving plates which sway with the movement of the waves. The kinetic energy created is stored in a piston pump, and then can be converted to electricity using a hydraulic system.

The system used a natural occurring event called the “bottem wave” phenomenon. Which basically explains that on the floor of the sea, waves cause elliptical motions rather than circular motions. These waves are also more frequent and constant than wind. Take the jump for a informative pic and a video link of the WaveRoller in action. (more…)

People who have a limited amount of space in their apartments or houses have a tough time finding the space to house a productive recycling system. All of those beer cans and cardboard boxes your porn comes shipped in add up fast. Creating even less room in an already cramped living space. The Ecopod Recycling System aims to offer a compact way to be eco-friendly.

The Ecopod crushes all plastic or aluminum containers you throw into it, storing 50 crushed items in a slide out plastic pod which can easily be slid out to the designated area. The Ecopod doesn’t even run on electricity. It crushes via manpower using a foot pedal. Beneath its lid there are two other pod compartments to house all other recyclables such as newspapers and glass. Available now for $328. — Andrew Dobrow
