E-Rope Modular Power Strip

erope1

Power strips usually come in one shape and size. Not much you can do to make a power strip look sexy. The E-Rope concept turns each socket into a modular cube, which allows for assembly into any shape with any number of strips.

E-Rope also helps cut-down on energy consumption. Even when a plug is plugged into the E-Rope socket, it only uses power when it needs too.

Blackout: Spies Penetrate US Electrical Grid

electricgrid

If your television goes out, you might want to hold off on calling your electric company. The situation could be out of their hands. In fact, the reason why your electricity just went out could be because of Chinese and Russian spies who have infiltrated the US electrical grid. Said spies planted malicious software inside the grid and had it gone undetected, we’d all be super fucked right about now.

To get a look inside grid-warfare, check out the Wall Street Journal’s piece on the recent hack attack.

Gadgets for Beavers: Cellphone Charger Made Out of Wood

woodcharge1

Apparently, being in the Russian military isn’t all fun and vodka. Hanging out in the woods all day might sound like a fantastic time (no, it actually really, really doesn’t), but in reality, it’s a lot rougher than you’d expect. Members of a Chechen troupe of troops have resorted to extreme ways of charging their beloved electronic devices.

This handmade wooden charger was made by Chechen troops after they realized that the 20 lbs. of charger cabling they hauled with them into the woods wouldn’t do any good without a source of electricity. Hence, the creation of a physically powered, wooden charging device. (more…)

Conductive Wire Glue A DIY Lifesaver

wireglue

There are times when I’m working on a project and soldering just isn’t an option. Maybe I’m away from my workbench or at an entirely different location collaborating with another artist. I wish I had known about Wire Glue, which is a prototyper’s wet dream. You simple glue wire together with it and it’ll conduct electricity to keep your circuit going. It’s durable, easy-to-apply and doesn’t require a heat gun or any sort of bullshit like that. And at $4, you have no excuse as to why you haven’t bought a can yet.

Cord Plug Redesigned

One of the most dangerous things you do on a daily basis (besides drive your automobile) is fiddle with the power cords of home appliances. You never know when pulling that cord will result in a tear and a powerful shock that you’ll certainly remember. Good thing designer Kim Seung Woo has redesigned the standard power cord with a glow-in-the-dark ring. And no, this hole is not for fucking.

The ring makes finding the socket and unplugging the cords, day or night, an easier task than ever before. No more deadly volts coursing through your body, sir!

Magic Apartment Light – What Goes On Behind Closed Doors?

Look at all of the nasty things going on in this apartment. Shitting, fucking, killing, stealing and even tripping are revealed when this magic apartment light is lit up. With the lights off, this house looks like nothing out of the ordinary, but flip the switch and you’re in for a big surprise. The things people do when I’m not around is frightening.

This wild lamp goes for $38.50 and if you’re in the States you’ll need a voltage converter to get it running. It’ll be worth it though, considering this thing has the uncanny ability to scare off guests lacking a sense of humor.

Electrifyingly Awesome Tesla Coil Gallery

Nikola Tesla represents what every American hopes to be, despite having been born in Austria. Intelligent, business savvy and I heard he never wore white after Labor Day; not to mention the insane amount of ingenious patents of his that still apply to this day and age. Let’s face it: he was a bigger pimp than Edison and not nearly as much of a prima donna.

Needless to say, I’m a fan. So, when I saw that the writers of Hack N Mod had compiled a gallery of their favorite Tesla coil creations I just couldn’t contain myself. Notice how they all light up like a Christmas tree. It brings tears to my little Jewish eyes.

Cooking With A Jacobs Ladder

The team at MAKE dug up a really cool video of Raphael and Max cooking objects with a Jacobs Ladder. Don’t know what a Jacobs Ladder is? Wikipedia has a fine and dandy explanation of it. Watch as these two clowns put a grape in between the current and let it cook. While I prefer to grill my food, this does look insanely fun.

Wilting Flower Monitors Energy Consumption

Here’s a device that’s shaped like a flower that you connect to your house via a wireless transmitter. It monitors the electricity consumed in your house in real time. Using too much energy will result in this flower’s demise, wilting at the first signs of wasted energy.

Designed by Carl Smith, the Wilting Flower will reward those who remain conscious of the amount of energy they use each day by standing tall, bright and blooming. Ideal for plant lovers and eco-nuts who need to be kept in check when it comes to their utility usage. A perfect match alongside the Water Watcher.
