Got Phelps?

After winning 8 gold medals, the amazing Michael Phelps has been compared to just about every oceanic life form existing on our planet. Yes, Michael Phelps has even been compared to a sea urchin. Of course this has led to an epidemic of Phelps apparel that everyone and their mother will be adorning for the next 30 years or more.

Fashionablygeek.com has compiled an assortment of Phelps t-shirts and gear (including the $500 swimsuit). So, show your support and grab the one that suits your style best. Then when Phelps takes gold at London in 2012, you can claim you’ve been a fan long before Beijing.

Michael Phelps To Become Dolphin

What makes a man? Is it tuna? Quite possibly, because Michael Phelps is now the greatest Olympian ever. He has shattered five world records while in Beijing and has now won his 11th career gold medal. Some say it’s because he’s a dolphin. While I don’t doubt that, I think he’s swimming so fast so he can use the toilet. The reasoning behind my theory? Here’s Phelps’ breakfast:

…Three sandwiches of fried eggs, cheese, lettuce, tomato, fried onions and mayonnaise, add one omelet, a bowl of grits, and three slices of french toast with powdered sugar, then wash down with three chocolate chip pancakes.

Phelps still has three races left to go before he’s done with China. It’s only a matter of time before he adds more gold medals under his belt and shows the world the USA means business. He’ll then communicate via sonar to his dolphin friends in the Pacific Ocean, where he’ll use their fins to ride into Maui.

The Suntory Mermaid II Wave Powered Boat

mermaid-wave-runner001.jpg

You can’t say the Earth doesn’t contain enough water. Nope there is more than enough of that for sure. So why are we not using it more? Especially for sea-going vessels. The Suntory Mermaid II is a boat that uses something waves to provide it the energy it needs to move.

Being touted as the greenest nautical power source since the sail, the Mermaid II uses two fins side-by-side along the bow which are moved by the waves to produce a dolphin-like kicking propulsion movement. The only drawback is that the Suntory will move at around five knots, which is 2-3 times slower than your average diesel ship. — Andrew Dobrow

Waterproof Dolphin MP3 Player for sea dwelling humans

dolphin

As we posted back in January, Century Corp Japan announced their Dolphin MP3 Player, a waterproof solution to portable media. The Dolphin looks like some sort of medical equipment you would find in a hospital and connects right onto a pair of goggles. The silicon covered 1GB flash drive comes with waterproof earphones, which we would think would also keep water out of your ears. Never did we think The Beatles’ Octopuses Garden would be so realistic. Pick one up for the yen equivalent of $105. — Andrew Dobrow

Swim with your MP3 player, seriously!

nu dolphin mp3 player

Nu has been selling their waterproof mp3 player NU Doplphin in Taiwan for a while, but it has only been put in the spotlight when it gets exported to Australia. First off this mp3 player is truely waterproof, as it complies with the fairly stringent IPX7 standards. Secondly the inner-earbuds are silicone-made meaning that will stay in your ears even underwater, with the other end of the chord screwed tightly onto the mp3 player. Can you press buttons under water? Oh yes of course, the buttons are found at the end of thelipstick-like body. The NU Dolphin does not have any display on top, but who cares when you strap (bundled) it next to your goggles (pictured above). The cylinder measures 60×21x21mm and weighs 25g. The casing is made of durable aluminum and is also treated to be anti-scratch. The battery transfers music (MP3/WMA) and charges via USB 2.0. When fully charged, it is good to last for 8 hours. The 1GB model is selling for $150 in Taiwan and Australia, a 2GB model will be out soon, too. — Sam Chan
