San Francisco Made Out of Jell-O
After all of the world’s major cities are decimated my nuclear weapons, engineers of the future might decide to rebuild with a cheaper building material alternative. Case in point, Jell-O. The Golden Gate Bridge would be a hell of a lot tastier, that’s for sure. You won’t want to hike through the city streets without a spoon and some Cool Whip. Liz Hickock created this scale model of San Francisco using her expert hand at Jell-O crafting. If you look... Continue reading
Bendy Bicycle
Most city dwellers rely on their feet more than anything, but there are more than a handful that prefer to cruise around their respective hoods on wheels. Most of these bikers you’ll see with backpacks or messenger bags, because when you live a city, leaving your bike parked on the street without a lock and chain is not an option unless you’re a softy for self-torture. The Bendy Bicycle, designed by Kevin Scott (we can only assume his father’s name... Continue reading
Important Documents in Comic Sans
It’s about time Comic Sans earned some respect. When Cleveland Cavs owner Dan Gilbert authored a scathing letter of hate directed at LeBron James after his decision to leave C-Town, there were apparently no other fonts that illustrated his anger quite as well as Comic Sans. And it’s a good thing too, because I feared that Sans would never get the credit it deserved, and from a respected member of the community at that. If other important documents had been... Comics of Our Dreams: Batman vs. Donkey Kong
Can Batman outlast Donkey’s flaming barrels? Can Bruce Wayne put aside his devotion to ape conservation in the face of death? Will Robin ever recover from his monkey bite? Next week on The Brave and the Bold! Deviantart user deankotz created this awesome ode to comics that only exist in the mind of a geek. Link [via]
$121,000 iPad is World’s Most Expensive (So Far)
Stuart Hughes has been adding ostentatious luxury to Apple products for years now and from the looks of things, he has absolutely no plans on stopping. His newest creation is the $121,408 Solid White Gold iPad. Weighing in at well over 4 lbs, this solid gold gadget is significantly less portable thanks to the extra weight. So all of you guys who were thinking about walking around Queens in the middle of the night to show off your newest gadget,... Continue reading
8-Bit Costume Makes Your Friends Look High-Def in Comparison
I know, summer has barely begun, but it’s never too early to start hunting for that perfect Halloween idea. Kiel Johnson and Klai Brown created this awesome 8-Bit costume, lovingly referred to as “Gary,” by cutting out large cube-shaped pixels out of high-density foam sheets. The pixels are attached to an articulated cardboard structure to provide wearability in all three or our dimensions. In total, the designing duo cut out around 4000 pixels, some of which will be used for... Continue reading
Wonder Woman Gets a Modern Makeover
After nearly 70 years of wearing the same sexy costume, Wonder Woman has been given a makeover. But that’s not the only change in store. In Wonder Woman issue #600, writer J. Michael Straczynski also delves back into Wonder Woman’s past, reexamining her origins. Instead of being raised as Amazon royalty, Diana was smuggled from the island as a baby when her home was destroyed. Presumably, she’s since been raised on the mainland, where she’s clearly aware of her background,... Continue reading
One Field, 600,000 CDs
Bruce Munro and 140 of his closest friends placed a total of 600,000 CDs over the span of Wiltshire field in the UK over the course of a weekend. The CDSea project started when Munro asked the public to donate their used CDs. After amassing a collection of 600,000, Munro did what any sane person would do after accumulating so many discs. He laid them in a vast field in pretty designs. Hit the jump for more pics.
Cheshire Cat Stormtrooper Helmet
I’m not quite sure where the merging of Alice in Wonderland and Star Wars became an idea that seemed worth trying, but I’m glad it happened. The Cheshire Cat Stormtrooper Helmet makes your typical imperial trooper seem creepily happy and just a tad too furry. I doubt these helmets would ever pass Darth Vader’s stringent uniform protocol, but a trooper can dream. Link [via]
8-Bit Game Characters in 3D
Just because the animation wasn’t made for 3D, doesn’t mean that we can’t use modern tools to bring the days of retro gaming into the modern age. Hell, we’ve already seen it work the other way around. Deviantart user Cezkid utilizes his mad skills to create 3D versions of classic 8-bit gaming art, including this Super Mario rendering. Also included in the collection is Contra, Mega Man and a Mudkip. You can see the rest after the jump.
