The Last HOPE: Chill Spot
Needless to say a hacker conference can take a lot out of a geek. That’s why this chill spot was put in. It makes watching the conferences upstairs relaxing, while hanging around in a hammock. If you had a computer you could partake in the humorous messages that would appear at the bottom of the screen displaying the speeches. The folks at the conference provided a web link that turned the hammock chill spot into a slew of comments displayed... Continue reading
The Last HOPE: Electronic T-Shirt Design
We came across an interesting display of posters and t-shirts from artist and designer Ray Lam at Iteetoo.com. Ray is inspired by electronic devices and creation and has started reflecting it in some fascinating art he’s designed himself. He has even taken bits and pieces from his abstract art posters and made some clever t-shirt decals for geeks and hackers alike. We are very impressed with his quirky approach towards the fusion of sci-fi and zen.
The Last HOPE: Segway Showdown
Love it or hate it, you gotta admit the Segway intrigues you. If you’ve always wanted to try one out, now’s your chance. At HOPE, they’ll have Segway courses set up so you can race your friend. We watched as several people wiped out in a row and boy was it a gas. Follies!
The Last HOPE: The Great LEGO Table
On the official website for HOPE, it said there would be a special table for adding to one gigantic LEGO creation. We arrived yesterday and saw little more than a pile of bricks. Today, there was progress but very little. By the time we started heading back home, I noticed someone had completely destroyed the sculpture and was rebuilding it from scratch. Link
The Last HOPE: POV Spectactles
Found at the Last HOPE Conference, this is actually a spinning sphere that looks like Earth. It uses POV to create an imaginary spinning world. There’s also another POV device that interlaces two colors with each other.
The Last HOPE: Can You Solve This?
Reward yourself with the answer. First one to solve it gets a prize. It’s the gift of love.
The Last HOPE: Day Two
It’s a hot Saturday here in New York City but the coverage must continue! Take a look around the Hacker Village, which featured all sorts of DIY projects. A graveyard of electronics was available to poach parts from, you could make your very own t-shirt, check out those glass dildos and participate in plenty of other activities. After the jump, lots of photos and plenty of debauchery.
Club-Mate: The Last HOPE’s Drink Of Choice
Hackers are a different breed of humans. They’re not into vanilla cola or Red Bull energy drinks. They stay away from the mainstream bullshit and rarely leave their router-filled lairs. This is why a drink like Club-Mate (pronounced “Klub Mah-Tay”) is not only the drink of choice here at the Last HOPE Conference, but it’s also a big hit with the hacker crowd in Germany. We bought one for four bucks, which is a reasonable price considering the size of... Continue reading

The Last HOPE: The AMD Project
Check out the AMD Project going down at The Last HOPE this weekend. I’d type up an original piece but the official website does it so, so well: This weekend, the Attendee Meta-Data (AMD) project will introduce a new location-aware social networking system to track and bring together hackers based on a huge array of matching interests. Conference goers will be given unprecedented ability to connect with new people, find the talks they’re most interested in attending, see what’s happening... Continue reading
