Canon Snap Fits Like A Ring, Snaps Like A Camera

canonsnap.jpg

Cameras have come a long way in the last 5 years. It’s interesting to think of where we’ll be in another 5 years time. We might be seeing gadgets like this Canon Snap concept. Designed to fit around your finger, the high-quality camera would be perfect for taking those candid snapshots.

Aesthetically, the Canon Snap looks just as sexy as any other camera, if not sexier. Taking a picture is as easy as just pressing the one button interface, and easy enough to hide for thouse optimal upskirt surprise photo moments. You know what I’m saying, dawg? — Andrew Dobrow

Canon disses Sanyo Xacti with TX1

tx1_2.jpg

When it comes to SD (SDHC) card camcorders, few would deny that the Sanyo Xacti line is indeed one of the most popular products if not the best and most successful in the market. Digital camera giant Canon is planning to take Sanyo down with their new PowerShot TX1, equipped with a similar 7MP CCD sensor and the ability to record HD videos up to 1280×720pixels 30fps. What’s more is that Canon fitted in an optical anti-shake lens with 10x optical zoom, their DIGIC III image processing engine, other proprietary technologies such as face-recognition autofocus. The TX1 is also a lot smaller than the Xacti, measuring 29.0×59.9×88.8mm and weighing 220g. Sanyo must be very worried when Canon quoted the suggested retail price of 500USD (a whooping 300USD less than the Sanyo Xacti HD-2), you would lose the HDMI output and the ability of taking still pictures in the middle of video recording, but who cares, you can do a lot with the 300 bucks you save; besides, we have more faith in Canon optics. We have a picture of the TX1 flipped open after the jump.

Canon released portable electronic dictionaries w/ MP3 playback

canon worldtank v300

Canon has released two new electronic dictionaries to ease your spelling problems. The Wordtank M300 and the Wordtank V300 also have the ability to playback your MP3s. So while an iPod or some other portable audio device probably does the job better, this can serve as a quick alternative. Seeing as these are first dictionaries and second audio players, the speakers are also assigned the duty of text-to-speech when you need to know how a certain word is pronounced. It’s too bad that we don’t see any ebook functionality here, that would make this an even more intriguing device now that ebook technology is getting reasonable enough for consumers to be truely interested. While these aren’t exaclty being marketed as pocket dictionaries, take a look, they are certainly smaller than that Websters you have laying around gathering dust.

New Canon fax machine seems to hold tech back

canon jx200 fax machine

While this new Canon fax machine labeled the JX200 looks very nice, one can’t help to wonder why anyone needs a stand-alone fax machine anymore? Aren’t fax machines so 90’s business room tech? With the thriving of multi-function printers that can fax, scan, copy, and have built-in phones, what is the point of this? There are advantages to having a standalone: the main one being that it does its job well, not a ton of jobs OK. So for specs, the JX200 scans and copies at speeds of one page per six seconds. canon also has said that this fax machine is fairly quite, which is something that is pretty hard to find in printing type devices. There is no doubt that this is a high quality product despite its fair price of $80. Canon does not put out products that disappoint. High quality is all fine and good, but is there a demand for fax machines when you can buy multi-functions that can do so much more for just a bit more of an investment? — Nik Gomez
