What To Expect From the Steve Jobs Keynote at the Apple “Special Event”

There’s a good reason that “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” is one of the best-selling and most influential books of the past half-century. People like to know whats coming. No surprises, please. It’s a human instinct to fear the unknown, or at least be mighty uncomfortable not knowing. Lucky for you, much of what can be expected from the Apple “Special Event” later today can be surmised from the various rumors which seem all but official. Here is what... Continue reading

Netflix Releases Official iPhone and iPod Touch Apps

Netflix promised their iPhone and iPod Touch apps would be released this summer, and here they are. Netflix officially launched their Netflix for iPhone and iPod Touch apps today into the App Store. Netflix subscribers can use this app to stream your Instant Watch movies and TV shows right from your devices. I checked out the iPhone version of the app by queueing up an episode of Law & Order: SVU and the quality was superb, even on the tiny... Continue reading

FaceTime as Predicted in 1910

A relic from the prophetic Hildebrandt chocolates collection of foreboding predictions for the future, this artist clearly had no idea what he was talking about. For one, those video conversations are clearly taking place over a 3G connection. Secondly… flying cars? Come on, that’s crazy talk. All I can say is that this woman must have said something mighty rude to whoever is on the other line, who is clearly seen flipping the bird. Also in the future, we have... Continue reading

Innocent iPad Executed by a Shotgun in the Name of Monetary Gain

At least it didn’t feel any pain. FreeTaxUSA used the death of an innocent iPad to advertise their services. While death has been used for self-promotion before (hell, look at most political ads), never have I seen such a blatant use of gore and bloodshed used so lightly. FreeTax shot an unsuspecting iPad with a shotgun slug for their own personal gain. And while I honestly believe that the perpetrators will go unpunished for their dastardly crime, their final judgment... Continue reading

Kindle and iPad Displays Compared Under a Microscope

Both Apple and Amazon insist that their displays are better suited for eBook reading. But they can’t both be right. So to help provide a definitive answer to the big question in the eBook community, Keith from BIT-101 put his new USB microscope to the test by getting up close and personal with both the Kindle and iPad displays. Tested at a variety of different magnifications, it’s pretty clear that if a reader were to have amazingly microscopic tunnel vision,... Continue reading

Apple to Add Email-Based FaceTime Functionality For iPods and iPads

If the newest iOS beta is any sort of indication, the rumors we’ve been hearing about front-facing cameras being key features of new models of the iPod Touch and iPad could be more than just a simple whisper on the streets of Cupertino. The new beta adds a new option for connecting through FaceTime via e-mail addresses, rather than just phone numbers. Since iPods and iPads don’t have phone capabilities, and as a result, don’t have phone numbers, adding e-mail... Continue reading

iPod Shuffle Neckband

The iPod Shuffle is one tiny ass device. It’s actually pretty hard to keep track of if you’re multi-tasking, which many music-listeners happen to be doing. If you’re one of the unfortunate schmucks who own the Shuffle, iPod Shuffle Neckband keeps your device close, regardless of how much close you might or might not be wearing. Look, sometimes a guy just has to workout in the nude. Precision manufactured from 3D printed polyamide, the iPod Shuffle Neckband is both light... Continue reading

iPhone 4 “End Call” Antenna Decal

The ironic thing about this End Call decal is that once the decal is put over the antenna, touching that area will no longer interfere with your signal. I love the idea, I really do. And oddly enough, if Apple decided to officially license this decal, it would probably make a lot of money. Especially at $29 a pop. But, yeah, not gonna happen. Link [via]

Mobile Apps By The Numbers (With Infographic Goodness)

It’s no mystery that Apple’s App Store dominates the mobile app market they way things currently stand. The closest competitor is Google and they don’t even release their numbers. So it’s hard to really place a marker on the current gap between the big two. A quick glance at the infographic after the jump tells you a few things you might not have known about the mobile app world. It also provides a pretty good idea of why Apple leads...
