A Few Crucial Thangz

gears

What up fellow GEARheads. Your man Andrew here in the hizzouse, just giving you the low down on recent Gearfuse activity.

1.) With four days left in July, we’ve already passed our record month in page views. This is all because of you and your sexiness. So, thanks, from the bottom of our icy hearts. You’ve kept us beating out records every month for the past six months.

All you have to do is log-in to Twitter and tweet anything that includes the term #Gearfuse. You can tweet #Gearfuse as many times as you want. 3.) You can always contact me at andrew -@- gearfuse.com for any general comment or request, including review requests. We’re currently taking review requests for electronics, gadgets and geeky books. Lay it on us. Send us your info. Let’s talk.

Thanks again, everybody, for making Gearfuse as fantastic and fun as it is. We love you all.

Contest Reminder: JBL Goodness

Everyone loves free shit, so why the hell haven’t you entered our awesome contest? JBL was kind enough to give us not one but TWO On Stage Micro iPod docks to give away. Hall & Oates, WASP and Fun Boy Three come to mind.

Sound of Silence: Apple Announces Updates

091213-macmini_425

Steve Jobs is off on some island banging chicks and sipping margaritas. Meanwhile, COO Tim Cook announced lackluster updates for iMacs and Mac Minis today. The 24-inch iMac has new NVIDIA graphics, twice the memory and twice the storage and still only costs $1499. The Mac Mini also got an upgrade, scoring 5 USB ports, Firewire 800 and a variety of options. It’s also being called the world’s most energy efficient desktop.

Finally, there is your mom. Only kidding. Apple also upgraded the Time Capsule (remember that thing?) and the Airport Extreme Base Station. They both now offer “simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dual-band networking “for optimal performance, range and compatibility.” Apparently, you can also set up a second Intranet for family and friends to use sans password. Very neat idea. Hit the link for the official press release.

Our Apologies For The Technical Difficulties

Oh boy. Remember the other day how I went off on a rant about Time Warner Cable? Well the technician finally came today and while he got the modem working again, my download speed was ~200kbps and websites just would NOT load. After calling techs and getting hung up on, I called and went to cancel. They kept me as a customer after adding “Road Runner Turbo” to my service, lowering the monthly rate for a 10Mbps line to $29.95 a month and crediting me with $80. They’re also sending out a technician again tomorrow morning in case shit fucks up again.

So, I apologize for the lack of posts. It’s the holidays and next week we’ll be on a reduced schedule. Consider it to be a little bit early this year and thank Time Warner Cable for it. They earned it.

Zune Phone To Launch At CES 2009?

Thanks to a shitty economy and the greater powers that be, we’re not going to CES this year. For me, it’s a nice break from an outdated technology show full of nothing but crap. However, it’s also a decent time for a company to announce something big and Microsoft might be doing just that. An analyst at Global Equities Research is claiming that Steve Ballmer will launch a Zune phone during CES 2009. The phone will rip off both the iPhone and the Danger Sidekick that T-Mobile offers. It’ll feature a slide out keyboard similar to that of the G1 and I have no doubt in my mind that Microsoft will find a way to fuck it all up.

Just sayin’.

Prepare For The New Xbox Experience

Microsoft has announced its New Xbox Experience will launch November 19, bringing a fresh look to the Xbox 360 Dashboard that integrates social features and customizable gamer avatars reminiscent of the Nintendo Wii’s Mii. In order to compete with the upcoming PlayStation Home, Microsoft is adding a slew of avatars, social networking features and more media to the Xbox 360.

Halo Announcement On Horizon

Teenagers will be pleased to hear that Bungie will be making a big announcement at the Tokyo Game Show next week. Will it have to do with Halo 3 or will it be an entirely new game? Most of the news outlets are saying it’ll be an extension of Halo 3, possibly even an expansion of some sort. Either way, you need to shave those freshly grown pubes, drink your first cup of coffee and get ready to game.

Public Service Announcement On The Go

You don’t need a DJ Mobile to be able to make public announcements over a loud speaker. Take a look at this briefcase.  It’s transportable and it’s got a built-in sound system that includes a 20-watt amplifier and 4″ speakers.  While it may not have a toilet inside of it like the Gotta Go Briefcase, it’s got the next best thing.

What’s the next best thing, you ask? The ability to be able to announce to everyone that you’ve divorced Carolyn and you’re eloping with Sarah Palin. It can be powered for up to four hours by eight C batteries or an AC plug. At $350 bucks, embarrassing unwanted attention awaits you.

Steve Jobs Finally Speaks

After pissing off investors, causing Apple stock to fall and acting shadier than Mickey Rourke after posting bail, Steve Jobs has finally spoken on the issue of his personal health. He claims he is fine and doesn’t have cancer and that everyone should mind they’re fucking business, essentially. This lets everyone breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that Apple’s famous CEO is doing fine.

That said, now everyone is going to be screaming about the “Mac Tablet.” Ugh.
