Proof In The Cards: T-Mobile 3G Hits NYC Tomorrow
Live in pixelated New York, use T-Mobile and own a UMTS-enabled device unlike your dinky F1 phone? Starting tomorrow, Big-T is rolling out its long overdue 3G network in the US. NYC is the first city to get it and as you can read on this employee e-mail sent to T-Mobile stores across the US. Bitchin’ data transfer speeds, bitchin’ reception. This is the T-Mobile you’ll know as of tomorrow. Other cities due for a 3G rollout? Austin, Las Vegas,... Continue reading
External cellphone antenna for crappy indoor coverage
One of the reasons of choosing a cellphone operator over another would be coverage, but no matter how good the network is there are always blind spots, this is especially true when you are 3G users (higher frequency lower diffraction), out of the city center, or even in your own room sometimes. NTT DoCoMo has got it figured out and started selling this box-like household antenna for you to put next to the window, dragging a 3.5 meters long cable... Continue reading
NEC Telecommunications to stop 2.5G phone development, close down largest overseas branch
Rumors have been going on that NEC would quit the overseas cellphone market, in fact, it has been a while since we last saw a new NEC 3G device. Along with its full internet feature, it can record browsed pages, sort, capture web pictures, a keyword search (like AOL? Sure hope not!), and... Continue reading
New BlackBerry 8800 is full-sized Pearl
The BlackBerry Pearl sure was pretty, wasn’t it? Now the newly revealed BlackBerry 8800 from RIM takes that special design centerpiece (the scrolling ball) and puts it into a full size BlackBerry. The 8800 has a full keyboard with one button per letter, which is the way it should be. Sorry, no camera. RIM is probably sick of the random drunk snapshots you keep sending them. Another sad spot is that there isn’t any Wi-Fi integrated into this design, but... Continue reading

3G wireless networks were getting quite a bit of press indirectly through the controversy that was the iPhone and the absense of 3G compatability. Sprint and Novatel have developed an card compatable with ExpressCard/34 called the Merlin EX720. It allows for a average download speeds of up to 600 Kbps – 1.4 Mbps and average upload speeds of 350-500 Kbps.... Continue reading
