So This is Why Bookstores are Closing — eBook Sales up 1000%

We’ve all kind of guessed why Borders was closing all of their remaining stores — but it’s interesting to see it broken down into raw data.

From 2008 to 2010, ebook sales rose 1,274%. Even though Amazon is skittish about releasing regularly updated sales figures on their Kindle eReader, a quick trip to your local coffee shop will show you that more people are turning to digital books.

Maybe it’s just me, but I still like to read a good, old-fashioned book — on regular paper. Even if they take up more space in my carry-on, it’s the one entertainment item that the flight attendants can’t make you turn off during takeoff and landing.

Also, books are resistant to EMP’s released by CME’s, which means they’ll still be usable after the apocalypse.
