Sky Chasers Review

Sky Chasers is one of the latest creations of the production studio Lucky Cat Studios. You can play this game online on a web browser, or on the downloadable app. The app is available both on Google Play as well as the Apple Store. Let’s take a closer look at what this throwback adventure game has to offer players.

The Gist of the Game

The concept behind this game is easy enough to understand. You have to make your way through different worlds in a flying cardboard box. Well, that is how the game begins, at least. When you start off, your character is in a cardboard box that can essentially float. Your goal is to float around, collecting gold coins as you go. You do need to be careful, however, as your “ship” relies on fuel. Every time that you ding the ship, it loses fuel. Nonetheless, collecting the coins does help to overcome some of this damage. Furthermore, there are docking stations every so often that help you restore your ship to its original condition.

Now, accumulation of the gold coins are more than just for regenerative purposes. By saving up, you are actually able to buy newer and better ships as you continue on your journey. These will come in handy as the worlds get progressively more complex. In the web version of the game, there are three worlds, although the mobile version does have more. The first world is a jungle, the second is a dark forest, and the final one is a glacier. Bumps and dings are not the only things standing in your way as you navigate the levels, however. Prepare to avoid weird flying aliens and other obstacles that will be put in your way.

The Controls

With the web version, you will need to use the left and right arrow keys to navigate your ship. If you are using a handheld device, you simply have to tap the position on the screen that you want the ship to go to. This will certainly take some getting used to. You will need to master a great deal of control over the cardboard box before you can prevent it from making contact with offending surfaces. As you have to rely upon just two keys, it will take some practice before you begin to travel more smoothly.

The Good and the Bad

For the most part, Sky Chasers is actually a really fun game. Its simple concept is greatly appreciated as it does allow you to enjoy the overall experience a lot more. The pixel graphics are also a nod to simpler gaming moments of the past. Nonetheless, once again simplicity does win out, adding to the character of the whole game considerably. Sky Chasers manages requires the player to concentrate but only just enough so to complete the objective. This makes it a great way to waste a couple of hours.

There is not anything really bad that you can say about this game. Perhaps the fact that limitation with controls can cause a bit of frustration but once you begin to master it, it really becomes second nature. All in all, Sky Chasers is a lot of fun in a small package.
