Real-Life Rorschach Mask Sticks It to the Man

I wasn’t thrilled with the effect used to make Rorschach’s inkblot mask morph in the 2009 film adaptation of The Watchmen; the obviously digital animation seemed slick and out of keeping with the nature of Alan Moore’s nasty, ultrareactionary antihero. Someone should have hired YouTube user guinness0507 to create the mask insteadthe effect he achieves with goopy daubs of thermochromic paint applied by wax paper to a beater t-shirt is creepily in keeping with Rorschach. The end is nigh, indeed. [via Geekosystem]

  1. Yeah, but if you read the comic it’s stated that the material he used for the mask was invented by Dr. Manhattan. So a slick, smooth morphing form is actually right in keeping with the material.

  2. Looks like a great idea, til the guy breathing through a film of thermopaint passes out and has seizures from fume inhalation.

Of course the paint high could be what makes Rorschach so cranky.
