R2-D2 Mailboxes: May the postal service be with you

r2d2_mailboxes_1.jpg

Such an odd turn of events. R2-D2 finally getting his props as more than just some beeping robot in Star Wars. These R2-D2 themed mailboxes will help celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars this year, and will be spread across America. They might not be a very accurate depiction of the R2 unit, but then again, what could a droid do with your mail?

The website labeled on the mailboxes, uspsjedimaster.com, is still a dead link so the project is definitely not well known yet or even being publicized. This URL title leads us to believe that the postal service will have more Star Wars themed tie-ins as well, in addition to the R2-D2 boxes. Maybe some Chewbacca stamps? I’ve always thought the wookie was an under appreciated character. — Andrew Dobrow

  1. Taxpayers money should not be used by the Post Office to promote Star Wars. HAS ANYONE noticed that USPS just announced a new increase in postage?
Where has common sense gone in our government’s management? This is absolute mania!

  2. @Irv Priddy: I’m pretty sure since this is an ad campaign that Lucasfilm is probably paying for this and not us hard workin’ American people. I don’t think they would do it for the fun of it. Good observation though. If you find more info on this be sure to let us know.

  3. You mentioned that uspsjedimaster.com is a dead link, but I can go to http://www.uspsjedimaster.com and it works. Apparently, there is someone at the USPS that doesn’t know proper DNS configuration 🙂

  4. @Eric: At the time of posting, the link was still not up and running since we got to the story early.

  5. I saw these around Austin, are they still being rolled out?

  6. @mailboxes I think these boxes are past their prime by now, dude. Was just a special appearance for the Star Wars anniversary.
