The Psychological Separation between Generations

Why is there always a difference in the understanding levels of the parents and their kids? Why are kids too intolerant to explain to their parents their opinions and thoughts? And why are parents too impatient to even consider their points? Why are parents not well aware of the latest equipments and gadgets? Is the fast paced society to be blamed or the technology? Are we to blame the sudden rise in the development rate for the recent generations?

While the newer generations readily accept changes, the older generations are reluctant to cope up with the modernization in information and technology. It is necessary for both sides to make efforts to bridge in this gap. The parents need to understand that certain things that were considered a taboo are now socially acceptable in the modern society. It is important for the parents to realize that pushing the kid beyond his limits can have a negative impact on the personality of the child. Greater generation gap portrays greater levels of misunderstandings.
For example, conventionally engineering and medicine were the only two choices given to a secondary school graduate. But with rising awareness and opportunities, students are choosing other unconventional career options too. In such a situation a student expects his parents to support him with his decision, and help him achieve his goal. Every parent should provide their child with the freedom to hop on to the career of their choice – and help them along the way.
Instead of making him feel ashamed of his choices and decisions, parents should express their own point in a subtle manner without hurting their self esteem and making them repulsive instead.

With so many technological advancements, educations opportunities and society up-gradations, kids these days are way ahead of their previous generations. A child must understand that his parents are his caretakers and his responsibility lies on their shoulders. So instead of being stubborn and adamant about their demands and opinions, they should try to explain to their parents why they feel the way they do. If you really think that they are being over protective and not much practical, you should talk to them patiently and make them understand what do you think and why!

While our generation has an incredible amount of realism, we have this habit of complaining and cribbing about everything. The older generation on the other hand is too stubborn to change and accept the reality the way it is.
The current requirement is the right amount of open mindedness, wisdom and patience to learn newer things. Parents and kids need to help each other. A mixture of experience and constant curiosity will help both generations to grow mentally.
