Like a lot of guitarists, I never got the hang of Rock Band or Guitar Hero; they seemed to much like something else. Instrument simulators for tablets and smartphones haven’t impressed me, either. But watching the video for Amidio’s OMGuitar, I was pretty impressed by the developers’ inventive approach to modeling the unique kinesthetics of the guitar. It’s an smart piece of work, neatly breaking down and rebuilding the “interface” of the six-stringed instrument. And if the video is representative, it sounds pretty, too. But my advice for guitar player looking for a portability solution remains the same: get a ukulele. [via Create Digitial Music]

Being light on theory, I’ve never understood the alternate tunings of non-guitar stringed instruments, though!
