The two living members of seminal grunge band Nirvana, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, are none too happy with former band member Kurt Cobain’s appearance in Guitar Hero 5. While the two have no legal say over Kurt Cobain’s image, an official statement released by the two says “While we were aware of Kurt’s image being used with two Nirvana songs, we didn’t know players have the ability to unlock the character.”
Unlocking the character allows users to select Cobain’s image to sing any song on the game, something that Cobain would likely have disapproved of if he had not committed suicide in 1994. Both Grohl and Novoselic have suggested that Activision “re-lock” the Cobain character so that he can only be used for the Nirvana songs available for play in-game. I think that’s fair. What would Kurt do?

iunderstand. they should have characters that are alive say yay or nay. dead characters should only be playable for their songs

that’s a bitch mug letn people play Bon jovi songs as kurt, courtney maybe crazy but she’s right about that. Be cool to play some santana songs though

I think it’s wrong to be able to play non-Nirvana songs as Kurt. Re-lock the character for his songs, great idea and I competely agree with it.

I think this whole thing was blown right outta proportion, and that it’s been taken way too seriously. Kurt had a sense of humour, he was every bit as human as the rest of us like that, and I think he’d have found it freaking hilarious that his character could be picked to sing lame songs like Bon Jovi and Flava Flav.
Fact is people, it’s a video game, just a bit of mindless fun, and you can choose not to make mini-Kurt sing those other songs if it really irks you that much. Besides, I don’t hear Johnny Cash’s estate complaining, and I had him singing Weezer the other day.
