James Whitmore could have used one of these giant mirrors

Concentrate two square meters of sunlight with a giant mirror and you’ll generate heat in excess of 3,500° centigrade at the focal point—a temperature which “no known materials” could resist. The clip doesn’t give enough information to explain what purpose this elaborate mirror mechanism serves. But it sure would cut those giant ants in the iconic thriller Them! down to size.
