solar-powered-christmas-lights

Al Gore, Barack Obama and now, there’s you. Trying to save the planet isn’t always an easy job, but somebody’s gotta do it. Well, these Christmas lights actually are pretty easy.

The solar panels do all of the work. All you have to do is hang the lights and enjoy. Not only do you get to save a butt load of money on your electricity bill, but you get to save the planet at the same time. It’s really win-win. Plus… hello? Bragging rights!

7-Foot Throne Made Out of Famicom Cartridges

famicom-throne

I’ve debated building a shrine to the NES for years now, but I’ve never actually gotten around to acting on the idea. Spotted over at the Super Potato retro gaming store in Akihabara, Japan, this 7-foot tall throne was made entirely out of Famicom cartridges, creating an apt shrine for the gamer who demands to be the king of his own domain.

Best Buy Leaks Black Friday Ad; Will Pass Out Tickets to Avoid Consumer Stampede

bestbuy

Best Buy’s Black Friday ad has leaked, which means it’s time to do some serious itinerary planning for the big day. See, I like me and my fiancee set up a full contingency plan based on what we want the most for us, then comes gifts for others. Come on, we need to set priorities people! Strategy is the name of the game on Black Friday.

So Best Buy has some moderately cool deals, especially in the video game department, but nothing mind-blowing. Though what might be notable is that Best Buy is not going to allow for anyone to get hurt this year because of their doorbuster deals. Apparently they don’t take “death by stampede” lightly. All doorbuster sales will be handled via tickets, which will be passed out up to two hours before the 5 am door openings. Hit the jump for a full-list of Black Friday Best Buy deals. Doorbusters are followed by an asterisk.

Joystick Built Inside of NES Console

NES-Console-Joystick-Mod_1

Even if my NES were still around, I doubt it would work. There’s something about sitting around in a dusty closet that doesn’t work well with the functioning hardware of gaming consoles. But don’t let it’s inability to work get you down. There are still plenty of possibilities.

The NEStickle is a Sanwa joystick, including buttons, built right inside of an old defunct NES console. The stick with compatible with Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and even Windows, Mac and Linux machines. While the NEStickle is certainly not the most space conscious gadget, if nothing else it’s an awesome example of console recycling.

Nintendo Ponders Releasing 3G Kindle-esque DS

kindle

Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata says that the company is debating whether or not a future model of the DS will take a book from Amazon’s book marketplace device, the Kindle, and offer digital downloads over the mobile 3G network.

With this business model, Nintedo DS users wouldn’t be required to pay a monthly fee for 3G access, but would pay an overhead price included in the retail pricing, basically providing the user with a one-time fee for lifetime access to the network. Providing 3G downloads would allow users to download DLC on-the-go. If much of your town or city is still Wifi-less, you might want to consider petitioning for this idea. Though these days, most major cities are Wifi’d from border to border.

NES Games Gone Bad

nes-gone-bad1

Things have really changed since the days of NES game releases. Ok, maybe things haven’t changed that much.

These wheatpaste game covers are the result of AltrdBst’s handy work. Taking us back to the good ole’ days when racism was acceptable and assassination was expected.

Gameboy Cake For the Tetris Fan

nintendo-gameboy-cake-design

Every year around Halloween I go on a serious sugar bender. There’s something about this season that fuels the five-year-old inside of me. The problem is that I can literally look at a slice of cake and gain five pounds.

So while this Game Boy cake looks extra scrumptious with its M&M Tetris design goin’ on, I think I might have to say no to a slice of this delicious creation. Oh… what the hell… om nom nom.

The NES Console Guitar

nes-guitar

The title of this post is in no way misleading. This is an actual working guitar made using an NES console! This must be the coolest damn mash-up in gaming history. I’ve heard people say gaming rocks, but this is ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome. Awesomely ridiculous. Awdiculous.

Including Donkey Kong knobs and Mario switches, check out the video after the jump to get a feel for how NES-ified this guitar actually is.
