Facebook Attempts Redesign to Get You to Click on Ads

You might have noticed a subtle change in your Facebook news feed lately. A select few Facebook users are experiencing a slight modification of the Facebook homepage. Instead of the “news ticker” on the top right corner of the homepage, you might be seeing advertisements instead. This redesign is Facebook’s latest attempt to encourage users to click on advertisements.

By making these advertisements more prominent, Facebook is apparently hoping that one of them will catch your interest, and encourage you to click (which subsequently increases their ad income). Some advertisements on Facebook are subtle — you might not even know that you’re clicking on a sponsored message.

So far, Facebook hasn’t been overly aggressive with its advertisements — until now. It’ll be interesting if this “experiment” results in another redesign of the popular social networking site.
