Ghetto Transformers: Cardboard in Disguise

cardboardformers

These Ghetto Transformers costumes are made using cardboard boxes, paint and probably some paper mache.

It’s all fun and games until it starts to rain. Soggy cardboard might be the least intimidating material ever. You can’t even give someone a paper cut with that shit. These costumes might work as a Halloween costume on a dry night, but for fighting Decepticons? I’ll stick with brute metal.

Personalize Your Board Game Experience with My Monopoly

my-monopoly

Monopoly is one of the most widely played board games in the entire world, so it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that players (or at least UK players as of now) can finally create their own personalized version of the game, featuring custom street names, places, spaces and icons. Hell. you could even create your own recession version if you really wanted too.

As long as your willing to shell out the £79.95 it costs to create your own game, Firebox allows you to personalize the board game in six easy steps. Uncle Pennybags would be so proud.

Joystick Built Inside of NES Console

NES-Console-Joystick-Mod_1

Even if my NES were still around, I doubt it would work. There’s something about sitting around in a dusty closet that doesn’t work well with the functioning hardware of gaming consoles. But don’t let it’s inability to work get you down. There are still plenty of possibilities.

The NEStickle is a Sanwa joystick, including buttons, built right inside of an old defunct NES console. The stick with compatible with Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and even Windows, Mac and Linux machines. While the NEStickle is certainly not the most space conscious gadget, if nothing else it’s an awesome example of console recycling.

Life-Sized LEGO Mario is the LEGOiest Plumber Ever

life-sized-lego-mario1

We’ve seen Mario’s henchmen in LEGO form before, but never have we seen the man himself quite like this. Weighing in at a massive 110 pounds and standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, this life sized Mario model is completely structured, modeled and built using  over 40,000 LEGO bricks. The pictures do all the talking here.

Built specifically for the Netherlands’ Game Mania by Dirk VH, the result of this massive undertaking is to be sold on eBay, with all proceeds heading off to charity, most likely to aid starving plumbers.

The Prometheus Device Lets You Shoot Fire From the Palm of Your Hand

the-prometheus-device

Everett Bradford created this insanely awesome “Prometheus Device” which lets you shoot fire from a hand-mounted flame thrower. The device makes you feel like a real superhero, or supervillain, for whichever purpose you decide to use your new found powers, good or evil, is up to you.

Bradford’s also done a great job documenting the building process, but of course, continue at your own discretion as this project is bound to be more dangerous than your average garage project. In other words, say your goodbye to your eyebrows now. You’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Big Head Self-Portrait Papercraft Halloween Costume

bighead

The days following Halloween are always a lot of fun. Not only do we get to munch on mountains of leftover candy, but we get to see photos of everyone’s awesome finished costume ideas. This Big Head Self-Portrait Papercraft costume is one of the neatest I’ve seen yet.

Eric Testroete got a little cocky. I mean this guy’s head was huge. He created a papercraft model of himself so he could show off his gigantic ego. The finished product makes his real head look massive and pixel-licious.

How to Roar Like Chewbacca

Chewbacca’s roar. This is one talent I’ve always wanted, along with the ability to rip off the arms of a droid if they beat me in chess, but that’s another talent for another time. This sexy instructional video features an adorable geek chick unveiling the secrets of the Chewie roar. You’ll need to have some sort of control over your oral muscles, something which I unfortunately don’t seem to have and it would help to share the genes of a tiger, badger or bear.

I’m pretty sure the key to mastering the roar is practice, even if you feel sort of silly gurgling all by yourself. The only problem I see possibly facing is explaining away the guttural noises if someone walks in on you practicing.

Mother-Son Family Guy Halloween Costumes

family_guy_costumes

Halloween doesn’t have to be all about getting the shit scared out of you. Craftster user SonicsInk posted this awesome Mother-Son Family Guy costume, perfect for a comedy-filled Halloween.

And remember, there is always the potential for some scariness. Stewie has been trying to kill his mother for years now. Victory will be his! I love the little details, such as the Brian doll humping Lois’s leg.

Mini DV Case Makes a Great DIY iPhone Stand

iphone-stand

Here’s a cheap way to create your very own sleek iPhone stand using an old Mini DV case. Creator Elam Nikserof added a coat of satin enamel paint and cut out a notch out of the case so he could still access the iPhone’s home button.

After hours of furious sanding, Nikersof was finally satisfied with the smooth finish, which looks about as soft as silk sheets.
