Canadian Library Loans out People as “Living Books”

In a weird twist on a “library”, a new building in British Columbia will be loaning out people — much the same way they loan out books.

It’s not as bad as it sounds. Essentially, you’d be “checking out” people in various areas of expertise, so that you could pick their brains for information. Need help on your term paper? Want to know the details of potato bug mating rituals? You can request an “expert”, and chat with them over a cup of coffee in the library’s cafe.

The “people library” will be located in Surrey, British Columbia. According to estimates, the library will cost $36 million dollars. It’s scheduled to open at the end of this month.

“What we’re aiming to do is bring the library to life for people,” says the chief librarian.
