Recycled Plastic Lampshade

renovation_lamp

Titled “The Renovation Lampshade”, this beautiful design is the creation of Daria Burlinska and Wojtek Traczyk. The team came up with the idea through cast off plastics and organic lines. I think it looks absolutely beautiful, though a bit like crumpled up paper in a waste bin.

Blackberry Tour Hits Verizon Next Month

blackberry-tour

Verizon users are grinning. There’s finally a new phone in the pipes that people will actually want to buy. It’s the Blackberry Tour and it costs as much as an iPhone 3GS and drops July 12th.

What’s that magic $199 price tag net you? The Tour of course can do 3G but it also has a nice 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, a 480×360 display, Bluetooth and GPS. While the lack of WiFi is disappointing, it’s hardly surprising for a Verizon phone. Hell, consider yourselves lucky enough to have Bluetooth! Overall, looks like a decent phone for the business crowd.

NES Controller iPhone Dock

Heh, you know, this mod is quite pleasant on the eyes despite the lo-tech method it took to make. I mean, you can really turn anything into an iPhone dock by taking an iPod cable, drilling or dremeling out a proper hole for it and running it through the plastic back out to your computer. That’s really all it takes. Sega Saturn dock, anyone?

Sony, The PS3 and the Emotion Engine

eechip

If you’re one of the lucky people who own a first-gen PS3 model (back when WiFi wasn’t standard and shit), your system has what’s called an Emotion Engine chip. Think of it as an extra heart for your PS3 that allows you to have a full Playstation 2 inside. Sony removed it a few years back to cut costs and now only a very limited number of titles are supported. To boot, Sony is also selling a lot of PSX games on the Playstation Network, so the incentive to add the EE back into the system is low.

But there is hope. According to a patent filing from last year (December, specifically), Sony is working on a way to compile and decompile the Emotion Engine. This will allow PS2 backwards-compatibility through software emulation, thus keeping us fanboys happier than ever.

The Pirate Bay Sold To Software Company

piratebaysimpsons

Wow. You know, I was dreaming earlier this morning that I owned a Ferrari F360, but now even that is enough to keep the shock out of me regarding this news. The Pirate Bay, a website famous for pioneering the online torrent market, has been acquired by Global Gaming Factory X (GGF) for $7.7 million. What does this mean for TPB’s users?

Bad news, according to TorrentFreak. While the TPB will become a publicly traded company on a Swedish exchange, it will ditch the fact that it hosts and tracks torrents. Now, a third-party company will be used to serve up torrents, leading the way for copyrighted material to be forbidden from being uploaded. Or, worse, GGF could shut the site down for good. Ugh.

Steve Jobs Returns To Apple Full Time

sjobs

Apple officially announced today that Steve Jobs has returned to Apple as its CEO. As you probably know, Jobs has been out of commission since January due to poor health. Most people speculated his cancer had returned but Jobs dismissed that as a mere rumor, stating that he had some kind of “hormonal imbalance.”

I’m glad Jobs is back. Now I won’t have to deal with certain sites looking like this.

Fresh: Skateboard Deck by Anthony Cozzi

pfresh1

Anthony is the man. Not just because he’s an avid Gearfuse reader, but because he designed this badass skateboard deck called Fruit. The entire thing is wrapped in fruit, giving a your board a fresh new look in a world full of World Industries and Element. The best part is that although extremely limited, you can still get your paws on one of Anthony’s boards for only $65. A small price to pay for an original deck.

After the jump: Specs, pix and a link to buy the board!

NYC Subway Map Cuff

nyc-metro-cuff-bracelet

Ah, yes. Functional jewelry. For people who’ve just migrated to the big city (as in, New York) and haven’t found themselves acclimated, consider dropping $23 on designer Tiffany Burnette’s wristcuff-thingy. It’s a metal cuff bracelet with the entire map of the subway on it. And by entire map, I mean Manhattan minus the ghetto areas uptown. Made in New York, for New Yorkers.
