Park to Play: Use Your Car as a Game Controller

park_to_play.jpg

Why screw around with some flimsy racing wheel when you can use your own car to control the game? This concept has been utilized before, but a new system called Park to Play could make it possible for the average consumer to bring the experience home. In addition to using the steering wheel and the pedals, opening and closing the doors and using the headlights can also function as controls within the game.

You can even use your car to play non-racing games (although I have no idea why you would want to). Unfortunately, there is no word on when this technology might be available for purchase, but the thought of my shitty Saturn doing burnouts and going over 100mph is intriguing —even if it is virtual. Sony Confirms $399 PS3 Coming to US, Outsources Chipmaking to Toshiba

It was only a matter of time before Sony announced that the cheaper, stripped down European version of the PS3 would make its way to the States–and it appears that today was the day. Specifically, the official announcement revealed that a 40GB PS3 with half the USB ports, no multi-format card reader, and no backwards compatibility will be available in the US starting on November 2nd for $399. This will coincide with a price drop on the 80GB PS3 from $599 to $499.

robocard

With his tin toy robot look and corrugated cardboard body, the RoboCard is willing and ready to do the extremely bizarre task for which he was created. Believe it or not, RoboCard will hold and protect up to 14 CDs and a roll of extra toilet paper “for any spill, leak, drip, drop, or other emergency.” At W8.7″ x D6.3″ x H18″ he can stand guard almost anywhere in the house where you may need some tunes or a little help dropping a deuce.

Pricing information has not been made available, but that probably won’t matter all that much unless you live in Singapore.—Sean Fallon

Sony’s New Cell Phones Stink…Like Apple Pie?

so703i

Sony’s new DoCoMo SO703i may come with GPS, TV, and music player functions, but what’s really interesting about these phones has nothing to do with the specifications. That distinction goes to the fact that one sniff of your phone could make you think about lunch. That’s right, the DoCoMo SO703i is available in 11 unique scents, like “apple pie” for instance. These scents are made possible by a replaceable strip located near the hinge. Each strip lasts for about 3 months, after which you can choose to replace it with any of the other available fragrances.

Is it a gimmick? Yes it is. But history has shown that gimmicks will move product. Unfortunately, those of us outside of Japan probably won’t have the honor of being duped by the DoCoMo SO703i anytime soon. More images are available after the break.

The Church Tank: Not Aerodynamic Enough For Battle

The Church Tank is the brainchild of Russian artist Kris Kuksi, and you probably already guessed that it makes a statement about war in the name of religion. It’s not an actual tank, only a model measuring 8″ h 4″ w x 10″ d, but I have a feeling that a full-size version would generate a little too much drag to be practical in battle. —Sean Fallon

Huge Nintendo Power Glove Tattoo: Gaming Tats Keep Getting Better

Personally, I’m getting a little tired of gaming tattoos, but each one that comes out sets the bar a little higher–which makes them hard to resist. The latest comes to us courtesy of Myck McClung at Three Saints Tattoo in Pensacola Florida. As you can see, this dude thinks the old Nintendo Power Glove is bad-ass. And I thought the Mario Throat Tattoo was hardcore. —Sean Fallon

DIY Sprinkler For Under $5

diy_sprinkler

If you have ever lived in a suburban neighborhood, you know how obsessive people can be about their lawns. You can hear your neighbors outside at 2 a.m. whispering words of encouragement to their plants. It borders on lunacy really. If you are one of these people, but you lack the funds to get a proper sprinkler, about $5 and a few minutes of work will provide you with a suitable substitute.

All you need is a 20 oz plastic bottle with a cap, 1 universal male hose attachment, 15 old ball-point pens, Plumbing contact adhesive and sealant, an electric drill with a 3.8″ and 5/8″ spade bit, and a utility knife. Most of that you probably have lying around the house, if not the price may be a little higher. Still, it will probably be cheaper than buying the real thing.
