Entertainment Weekly Publishes First Video Advertisement

ew-video-ads

Entertainment Weekly has become the first print publication to publish video advertisements in the pages of their magazine. Activating similar to a musical greeting card, the video ads start as you turn the page.

The first set of ads features 25 minutes of preview content for CBS and advert pitches for Pepsi Max. The video content, technically, has got to be tough to maintain as it gets thrown around in the mail. Half of these videos must not even work by the time they reach their destination. Print doesn’t have much steam left, even if they are integrating expensive video ads. I don’t see much of a future for in-magazine video advertising when the internet can provide the same content with much more storage space and HD video, all for a fraction of the cost.

Cube Office Desk with Strategically Placed Storage

cube-office-desk1

What is it about cubes that activates our innate geeky attraction? Does it have something to do with our natural attraction to Geometry and segmented squares? I don’t know, I was never great at math. But what I do know is that anything involving cubes usually catches my eye.

This Matthius Pugin’s Cube Office Desk is particularly awesome because it’s composed of variously sized multi-colored cubes which can all be used as individual storage hubs. It sort of makes all other desks feel like a waste of space.

Final Fantasy XIII Gameplay Hits YouTube

Oh boy. Look what we have here! Some brand spankin’ new Final Fantasy XIII footage has hit the YouTubes and this time around, it’s no pre-rendered bullshit. No, sir. This time, we have some live gameplay that was captured by an adoring fan. After watching the video for about five minutes, I have to officially state that I am excited for this game. The last time I got excited about a Final Fantasy title was with FF10. The graphics, the physics and the particle effects of FF13 are the best I’ve seen in an RPG, let alone Playstation 3 title.

People, get your systems ready. This is going to be epic.

Pop Up Vitamin Water Store

vitamin_water_10jpg

Look, I’m not going to lecture you about what you should be eating or drinking. I don’t know how your lifestyle works. But I can tell you this: Vitamin Water won’t make you thin but if you are big on the soda and junk food, it’s a good way to start weening yourself off that crap. Those of you in NYC will no longer need to hit up the local bodega for a bottle of the good stuff. Coca-Cola, the parent company, is opening up a “pop up” Vitamin Water store in the old Helio store on Broadway in SoHo. It opens tomorrow but the question is: What will go on in there? Are they just going to sell Vitamin Water? Coke products? Apparel?

We need answers! I think I’ll investigate tomorrow afternoon and will report back this weekend.

Pepsi Natural: An Alternative For The Rest Of Us

pepsi-naturaljpg

It’s late at night and your World of Warcraft raid just started. You’re tired and know the only way you’re getting those sweet, sweet epics is to gulp caffeine until your stomach hurts. Instead of reaching for the standard fare, like Red Bull, why not give Pepsi a try? I’m not talking about your standard Pepsi here, I’m talking about Pepsi Natural.

Pepsi Natural is a new initiative from Pepsi that brings back the classic glass bottles that our parents often reminisce about. Additionally, ingredients include pure cane sugar, sparkling water and kola nut extract. No high-fructose corn syrup for us, thanks very much. It’s a different taste for sure, but one that most people will find surprisingly refreshing. Now all that’s left is to score a free case from Pepsi. Pepsi, are you listening? Send over some chips and a few bottles and we’ll be square.

Got Crabs?

sodacrabs

No, no. Not the kind your ex-girlfriend gave you. Sheesh.

The kind with the blue legs that taste delicious and melt in your mouth? Try again.

Half-Life? No, no. That’s a headcrab.

Guys and gals, I’m talking about the soda can crab. Look at this cute little bugger. Don’t you want to take him home and let him collect dust on your work desk? Aww! Nah, I kid. Instructables user Chaitanyak was kind enough to post a full tutorial on how to turn a soda can into a metal crab. It’s an easy, quick and, more importantly, fun activity that you and your kids can do on a rainy day. See? Gearfuse cares about crabs.

How The Pepsi Logo Entered The 21st Century

pepsi_faces

I love Joel. I really do. He’s a good friend and when he’s drunk, I try to steal Boing Boing’s bank account number. But alas, our good friend Joel has uncovered a 6MB PDF file that supposedly was used to convince the Pepsi execs to change the logo.

Surely you’ve seen those new Pepsi cans, right?

pepsi_aestheticsratio

Regardless, it seems the design group Arnell was really into relating Pepsi to Galileo and shit like that. “Figure B: Geometry of Aesthetics: Dynamics.” I’m telling you, you couldn’t make this shit up. Take a look at the PDF file and try to decide of someone actually had the balls to show this to Pepsi Co.

Maybach Landaulet Costs $1.4 Million

For those of you not familiar with Maybach, it’s an extreme luxury car produced by Daimler/Mercedes that’s designed for the wealthiest of people. The latest model, the Landaulet, was announced last year and will now be available for order since the car is hand-built. At $1.4 million, you’ll discover that it’s one of the most expensive cars on the planet.

But the Landaulet has a feature that will blow any other vehicle out of the water. The back seats can enjoy a retractable hardtop roof allowing for the back of the car to remain a convertible while the front is protected from the elements. Truly a stunning feature. All the rest of the Maybach nonsense will be on hand, like the seats that recline and Grand Napa leather. If you save up enough Pepsi Points to buy one, let us know how it handles.
