Brainwave Sofa Carved Straight From Your Thoughts

bwave_sofa

Lucas Maassen and Dries Verbruggen had a crazy idea. Not only did they have a crazy idea, but they acted on that very oddity. And that’s how you get things done, no matter how nutso the concept might seem.

This proof-of-concept Brainwave Sofa device takes raw EEG data and creates a piece of furniture based on your very thoughts.

The extracted EEG data was used to create a 3D landscape with the x-axis representing the frequency of brainwave activity in hertz, the y-axis is the percentage of activity, and the z- axis is time. The sofa was then created in its physical form by a five axis computer numerical controlled machine, which creates a three dimensional object out of foam.

car_finder

So you’ve lost your car… again. How many times have you forgotten where you parked? It happens to the best of us, but everyday? Come on, you should probably go visit a neurologist or something.

If he has trouble squeezing you in, here’s a nice back-up plan. The $.99 iPhone app Car Finder uses augmented reality to help you find your car. Car Finder guides you to your car using easy to follow walking instructions and even marks your spot with a little icon. Now all you have to do is remember to actually set the app before you leave your car.

OS Calculators Reaffirm the Fact That You Still Use a PC

os-calculators-1

…but don’t worry, they’re available in the Mac OSX flavor as well. These OS Calculators recreate the experience of using your OS’s stock calculator app, even when you’re away from your computer.

A Mintpass designer recently showed off these OS Calculator concepts. Both models similarly clones its OS counterpart. These calculators will almost certainly never exist, but hey, worth checking out anyway, just in case they do.

Synchronicity Island Purifies Water Using the Power of You

syn-island1

If we’re going to be enslaved, we might as well have a symbiotic relationship with our slave master. The Synchronicity IslandĀ  allows us to buff up our beautiful, if slightly flabby, bods while our cardio workout provides all of the power needed to purify water. Metaphorically turning water into wine, except the wine is actually more water.

Powered by a series of exercise machines, the Island uses our kinetic energy to pump water into four tanks, which starts the purification process. We are the bearers of clean things and we have the shaky legs to prove it.

Hit the jump for a lego-fied journey to the world of Thriller.

Portable Bookshelf Doesn’t Make Much Sense

estudio-bookshelf1

I’m not sure why you would lug around an entire bookshelf when you could just throw all of the books on an e-reader and carry around an entire library in your pocket. Maybe that’s the “conceptual” point. Fighting the power! Or something like that.

The transportable bookshelf is made using crates originally used to haul fruit. I love, love, love books, but I think in this case I’d prefer the fruit. Plus, I didn’t have any breakfast this morning.
