Barack Obama is taking his campaign to the virtual space that is gaming in an attempt to appeal to gamers everywhere. The Obama campaign has purchased space in Madden NFL ’09 and nine other titles from Electronic Arts. GE Develops Water-Repelling Metals
Scientists at General Electric’s Global Research Center in Niskayuna, NY have developed a way to repel water off of metals through a treatment using superhydrophobicity properties. This is big news and is set to change the way we develop new products. Superhydrophobic metals open up many new applications, says Jeffrey Youngblood, a professor of materials engineering at Purdue University. “Metallic structures are more robust and can survive in harsher environments, allowing for their use in applications where plastic is infeasible,... Internet-controled Halloween Lights
Ready to party like it’s 1998 again? Damn straight. Check out Alek Komarnitsky’s Halloween light expose above. Very nice and elaborate, no? Alek took the awesomeness one step further by rigging the electronics of his light show up with X10, which is a protocol used to control home automation systems and lights. If that didn’t sound good, what if I told you the entire thing is controllable over the Internet? That’s right. Go ahead and smile and then click the... Continue reading
Freehands Glove Lets You Text In The Winter
While the DOTS gloves looked to be the ultimate texting gloves, there’s now a new pair of mittens in town. The Freehands Glove features removable thumb and index fingertips, perfect for wintertime activities. No twirling your meat with these babies but texting should work out A-OK . Fleece goes for $20 with some other fabric going for $30 and leather costing $40. The fleece ones seem like a good buy. Link
Smuggling Drugs With A Playstation 2
Good idea: buying a PS2 to play some sick games. Bad idea: buying a PS2 to gut it and smuggle drugs into your country. That’s just what these three men, two Canadians and a New Zealander, are accused of. Well, not so much accused but more like getting caught red handed. Australian customs detected the parcel containing the drugs at Sydney’s international mail facility on October 5. They found 3,400 ecstasy pills hidden inside the PS2 that was en route... Macbooks On The Cheap
You’ve already heard all the news that’s sprouted from the latest Apple event. Vince briefly mentioned the new price for the old Macbooks – $999, making it Apple’s first notebook under $1,000. However, is this price cheap enough to pull consumers in? Many Windows notebooks are priced between $500 and $1,000 dollars, which leaves room for any upgrade deals you want to make. On the other hand, the old Macbooks price dropping to $999 will leave little to be desired... Continue reading

SanDisk Announces SlotMusic Player
Last month, we discussed SanDisk’s latest new format SlotMusic. While it’s simply just a microSD card with songs on it, SanDisk feels that’s enough to try to make a push for a place in the digital music industry. To make matters worse now, SanDisk is selling a $20 MP3 player that will play SlotMusic or microSD cards. Some of the players will cost $35 but those will include a full album of music with the purchase. To be honest, I... Continue reading
Wind Turbines Inspired By Ancient Methods
We’re digging this eco-friendly goodness from the folks at Windation Energy Systems. If you couldn’t guess by the name, they deal with organic means of producing wind energy. The developer of Windation’s latest wind turbine, Mark Sheikhrezai, was inspired by wind catchers used by the Persians to keep their interiors cool. The concept is simple: wind blows into the top, then it’s directed downward where the wind turns a turbine that generates up to five kilowatts of electricity. That’s almost... Continue reading
World Trade Center Transportation Hub Is As Elaborate As It Gets
Look out Grand Central Station, there’s a new transportation hub in town. The World Trade Center’s transportation hub is, after numerous redesigns, scheduled to be completed in 2012. The designer, Santiago Calatrava, must have some fascination with evangelical churches because this glass and steel structure is turning out to look like something Reverend Robert Schuller designed. Besides that, it’s a nice change of scenery compared to some of the other hubs in New York City. Hopefully, if it is well... Continue reading
