Tokyoflash Eleeno E3 LCD Watch keeps us guessing

tf_eleeno_1.jpg

Tokyoflash is known for its head-scratching induced confusion with their watch designs and this 3rd release of the popular Eleeno model, which is availalbe for around $80, is no exception.

To read the time, first read the number of LCD blocks in the top row of windows for hours, the second block of windows for 10-minute increments, and the bottom row of windows for the minutes. Which seems easy enough, but just try doing that multiple times per day and tell me if thats not annoying. The design might just be worth the inconvenience though.  — Andrew Dobrow

FYI, you will need some wood crafting skills and a nice chunk of free time to produce your own cubes, but hey, any amount of time is worth this much coolness. — Andrew Dobrow

The fine line between Lego builder and Lego artist

legoart1.jpg

What’s the difference between a Lego builder and a Lego artist? The answer is simple. Nathan Sawaya. Formerly studying law, Sawaya decided his life needed to go in a different direction. That direction happened to be a professional Lego artist. He currently displays his “brick” works in exhibitions.

Legos have never held this much cultural significance. Or something like that. I dunno, just trying to sound artsy. But wow, take a look at more of these pics after the jump. (more…)

DIY: Tennis Ball Camera Tripod

tennisballtripod_1.jpg

Most camera tripods are big, clunky objects that really are a pain in the anus to transport everywhere if you’re just a pleasure photographer, or a novice photog, which sounds more macho. Using something you probably have laying around the house anyway, a tennis ball, you can create your own mini-tripod for easy stability where ever you go.

This tennis ball tripod is only recommended for use with light cameras, so you don’t wanna go putting cameras on there with those 2 foot long lenses. This project is great because the inner material of a tennis ball is made of a rubber, which is great for stability and not scratching your gear. — Andrew Dobrow

Jobs and Gates share the stage, with no bloodshed

jobsgates.png

Surprisingly, the two CEOs seemed to really like each other. Both Jobs and Gates seemed full of nothing but good words for each other’s companies. For the duration of the conversation, both Steve and Bill exchanged sly smiles and slightly flirtatious glances. Is that love I smell in the air?

All kidding aside, a big chunk of the conversation centered around software and the risks both companies took while working on their initial software framework. All in all, it’s interesting to see. Check out the vid to see the two giants clash horns. — Andrew Dobrow

Recently installed in Helsinki is this huge touch display called CityWall, a collaborative way of uniting the cities people in a social, fun, and playful method of interaction, while still integrating the fantastic wonder of technology.

Public content from YouTube and Flickr fills the wall with Web 2.0 goodness. You can even submit your own files to the wall display by sending a text or email to post@citywall.org. Or you can also tag your files on YouTube or Flickr with the word “Helsinki” and it will automatically be picked up by bots. — Andrew Dobrow

Bubblegum Dispenser for those with a child-like “frame” of mind

gumbwall.jpg

The best part of waking up, is bubblegum in your frame. That’s when you know you need to get a life. But than again, this Bubblegum Dispenser Frame would be a cool addition to a household, providing that you don’t have a child (or adult) with a sweet tooth. Because this stuff will surely disappear.

One thing you’ll love about this is that no change is required (which would be kind of stupid if it wasn’t like that), so you won’t have to worry about your kids bitching at you for a god damn quarter. Man, I hate that. My mommy always says no and it’s not fair! *stomp, stomp* — Andrew Dobrow

Rock-Ola brings digital to the jukebox

rockola_jukebox.jpg

With a jukebox this advanced and expensive, you probably shouldn’t pull a Fonz, and slap the damn thing while cooing out a soulful “Hey!” In fact, that kind of behavior would probably send you to jail. The Rock-Ola is a state of the art digital jukebox which can hold up to 2,800 CDs and can be browsed, sorted, and queued via its built-in 15 inch touch screen.

The GUI of Rock-Ola is truly impressive, putting all of the information you need right in your hands. Playlists are made by just dragging and dropping selected tracks into the play queue. Models start at a whopping $7,295. But that kind of money is worth it for something this magnificent.  — Andrew Dobrow

Recycled Boeing jet becomes a college student pavilion

airplanebuilding1_1.jpg

Using 60 feet of pure recycled Boeing jet, Lot-ek has made a student pavilion over at the University of Washington in Seattle. This student lounge area looks like a great outdoors area for people to hang out, do homework, and expand their mind in, ahem, not quite legal ways.

The jet overlooks Lake Union in what looks like an excellent placement for such a unique addition to the school. Students will surely be taking some trips of their own in this airplane of old. — Andrew Dobrow
